Using a novel virtual-reality simulator to assess performance in lumbar puncture: a validation study

open access: yesBMC Medical Education, 2023
Background A lumbar puncture procedure’s success depends on a competent physician minimizing the risk of failing to get a sample and avoiding complications such as post-dural headache.

Integration of Serum Neurofilament Light Chain and Cortical Dysfunction Improves Diagnostic Accuracy in ALS

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To determine whether integration of serum neurofilament light chain (NfL) and cortical dysfunction improves diagnostic accuracy in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) when applied alongside the Gold Coast criteria (GCC). Methods In this prospective study, 148 participants with suspected ALS were recruited (101 ALS and 47 with ALS ...

Incidence and risk factors of postdural puncture headache: prospective cohort study design

open access: yesPerioperative Medicine, 2020
Background Postdural puncture headache is one of the complications following spinal anesthesia and accidental dural puncture. Several modifiable risk factors contribute to the development of headache after lumbar puncture, which includes needle size ...

FGF13 Deficiency Ameliorates Paclitaxel‐Induced Neuropathic Pain by Inhibiting VASH1‐Mediated Microtubule Detyrosination to Promote Mitophagy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
FGF13 is upregulated in DRG neurons of PIPNP model mice. DRG neuron‐specific knockout of FGF13 ameliorates PIPNP symptoms. Mechanistically, FGF13 potentiates microtubule detyrosination by promoting VASH1 binding to microtubules. FGF13 knockout suppresses VASH1‐mediated microtubule detyrosination and promotes α‐tubulin tyrosination.

Cerebral venous thrombosis as a complication of intracranial hypotension after lumbar puncture

open access: yesBMJ Neurology Open, 2020
Background Optic neuritis is recognised by the international classification of headache disorders as a painful cranial nerve lesion. A lumbar puncture may be performed in the investigation of optic neuritis.

Targeting Endogenous Lipophagy: A Novel Strategy to Enhance MSC Osteogenesis and Mineralization for Senile Osteoporosis Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Schematic representation of the role of lipophagy in bone mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs). In healthy MSCs, functional lipophagy efficiently degrades lipid droplets to support oxidative phosphorylation and cellular energy production, thereby facilitating osteogenic differentiation and matrix mineralization.

Lumbar puncture in patients using anticoagulants and antiplatelet agents

open access: yesArquivos de Neuro-Psiquiatria, 2016
The use of anticoagulants and antiplatelet agents has largely increased. Diagnostic lumbar puncture in patients taking these drugs represents a challenge considering the opposing risks of bleeding and thrombotic complications.

Dural tear from diagnostic lumbar puncture followed by long-term morbidity: a case report

open access: yesNeurological Research and Practice, 2020
Background Lumbar punctures are performed in different medical settings and are a key procedure in the diagnosis of several neurological conditions. Complications are rare and generally self-limiting.
