The core competencies in hospital medicine: Procedures 2025 update

Patient Dose Optimisation of Abdominopelvic Protocols During X‐Ray Imaging

This study evaluates organ doses in abdominopelvic radiography for both erect and supine positions, addressing dose optimisation concerns in Ghana. Using CalDose X and thermoluminescence dosimeters, organ doses and image quality were analysed, revealing significant dose reductions with optimised exposure parameters (70 kVp, 10 mAs, 110 cm FDD).

The Importance of Patient Positioning in Radiography When Utilising Automatic Exposure Control

This study highlights the impact of inaccurate patient positioning on dose and image quality when utilising the automatic exposure control (AEC) for radiographic examinations. While the AEC serves to optimise radiation dose to patients, the results here demonstrate that poor positioning can lead to significant dose implications for patients.

Image Reject Patterns in Computed Radiography: Insights From a Ghanaian Radiology Department

This study examined image rejection patterns in a computed radiography system at a tertiary hospital in Ghana. An overall reject rate of 16.5% was observed, exceeding recommended thresholds, with anatomical cut‐off and positioning errors being the most common causes.

Evaluating the Diagnostic Utility of Spinal Ultrasound in Neonates With a Simple Sacral Dimple: An Eight‐Year Retrospective Study

This study retrospectively analysed eight years of neonatal spinal ultrasound data from a major Australian children's hospital to assess the value of imaging for simple sacral dimples. Out of 448 scans, 195 were for an isolated simple dimple, and only two infants (1%) were found to have spinal dysraphism, both with other congenital anomalies.
