Resolving Canada-U.S. Trade Disputes in Agriculture and Forestry: Lessons from Lumber [PDF]

open access: yes
Prominent trade disputes between Canada and the U.S. involve agriculture and forestry, with lack of transparency caused by Canadian non-market institutions a source of U.S. objections.

EFFECTS OF SAWING PATTERN ON DRYING RATE AND RESIDUAL DRYING STRESSES OF PINUS RADIATA LUMBER

open access: yesMaderas: Ciencia y Tecnología, 2002
Flatsawn and quartersawn Pinus radiata (radiata pine) sapwood boards were dried in a tunnel dryer in three runs using three drying schedules. These schedules represented low temperature (LT), accelerated conventional temperature (ACT) and high ...

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

INDUSTRIAL EVALUATION OF RE-DRY STRATEGY FOR SOFTWOOD LUMBER

open access: yesMaderas: Ciencia y Tecnología, 2005
This paper presents an experimental evaluation of the first commercial scale dry-sort-redry (DSRD) strategy for drying of 2x4 Pacific coast hemlock (PCH) lumber.

Dimensional stability and mechanical performance of face-glued spruce-pine-fir and Douglas-fir studs

open access: yesDrewno
Warpage of dimensional lumber has been identified to be the major issue for its use in wood construction prefabrication companies in North America. Face-gluing is a promising technique to mitigate warp of dimensional lumber.

Comparison between Allowable Properties Method and Reliability Analysis Method to Determine Design Values of Visually Graded Chinese Larch 40 x 65 mm Lumber

open access: yesBioResources, 2015
The reliability analysis method and the allowable stress method were both applied in this study to determine design values of ultimate compression strength (UCS) of visually-graded 40 x 65 mm dimension Chinese larch lumber.

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

APPLICATION OF NEUTRON RADIOGRAPHY TO INVESTIGATE CHANGES IN PERMEABILITY IN BACTERIA TREATED PINUS RADIATA TIMBER

open access: yesMaderas: Ciencia y Tecnología, 2004
The permeability of softwoods can be enhanced by selective bacterial attack of the pit membranes. In this paper, green flat-sawn Pinus radiata sapwood boards were sprinkled for various exposure times with a nutrient solution containing a mixed bacterial ...

Properties of Malaysian Solid Coco-Lumber

open access: yesCORD, 2010
Solid coco-lumber is relatively a new raw material in Malaysia’s furniture industry. However, different situations can be seen in the Philippines and Indonesia as they are actively producing and marketing coconut wood-based products.
