Luminescence of Polypeptides and Proteins

1971
It is frequently advantageous to consider the evolution of ideas and results when surveying a particular area of reseach since the early results often contain the fundamental outlines of a problem which subsequently become obscured by the later accumulation of detailed knowledge. The history of the development of protein fluorescence followed a logical

An enzyme-coupled ultrasensitive luminescence assay for protein methyltransferases

Analytical Biochemistry, 2010
Epigenetic regulation through protein posttranslational modifications is essential in development and disease. Among the key chemical modifications is protein methylation carried out by protein methyltransferases (PMTs). Quantitative and sensitive PMT activity assays can provide valuable tools to investigate PMT functions.

Labeling of proteins and oligopeptides with luminescent lanthanide(III) chelates

Journal of Peptide Science, 2006
Synthesis of a building block that allows introduction of photoluminescent europium(III) and samarium(III) chelates to synthetic oligopeptides on solid phase using standard Fmoc chemistry is described. Upon completion of the oligopeptide synthesis, these conjugates were converted to the corresponding lanthanide(III) chelates by treatment with ...

Protein-Induced Long Lifetime Luminescence of Nonmetal Probes

ACS Chemical Biology, 2011
Time-resolved luminometry-based assays have great potential for measurements in complicated biological solutions and living cells as the measured signal can be easily distinguished from nanosecond lifetime background fluorescence of organic compounds and autofluorescence of cells.

A Water-Soluble Wavy Coordination Polymer of Cu(II) as a Turn-On Luminescent Probe for Histidine and Histidine-Rich Proteins/Peptides

open access: yesInorganic Chemistry
Histidine plays an essential role in most biological systems. Changes in the homeostasis of histidine and histidine-rich proteins are connected to several diseases.

A Study of Sensitized Lanthanide Luminescence in an Engineered Calcium-Binding Protein

Analytical Biochemistry, 1993
In this study, the CD loop of the Ca(2+)-binding protein oncomodulin was replaced by a high-affinity, metal-binding sequence that was found to reverse the order of fill of the two sites in the protein. A cysteine was included at position 7 of this sequence, i.e., DKNADGCIEFEE.

High Sensitivity Luminescence Nanoparticle Assay for the Detection of Protein Aggregation

Analytical Chemistry, 2011
Nanoparticle assay utilizing time-resolved luminescence resonance energy transfer (TR-LRET) was developed for the detection of protein aggregation. This mix-and-measure nanoparticle assay is based on the competitive adsorption of the sample and the acceptor-labeled protein to donor europium(III) polystyrene particles.

[Luminescence quenching of UV-irradiated proteins].

Biofizika, 1977
Kinetic curves of paramagnetic centres accumulation and quenching of the luminescence of UV-irradiated proteins at 77 degrees K are compared. Initiation of luminescence of UV-irradiated proteins at the annealing of paramagnetic centres was studied. The luminescence of UV-irradiated proteins was shown to be quenched with the paramagnetic centres formed.

Circularly Polarized Luminescence (CPL) of Proteins and Protein Complexes

2009
The review considers general theory of circularly polarized luminescence (CPL), instrumentation employed for its accurate measurement including artifacts, calibration, principle parts, and its application to proteins and protein complexes. Circularly polarized intrinsic fluorescence of proteins includes CPL of peptides, poly-α-amino acids, tyrosine and
