CD9‐association with PIP2 areas is regulated by a CD9 salt bridge

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The tetraspanin CD9 has an intracellular salt bridge. If CD9 opens, open‐CD9 moves from PIP2‐rich areas to regions populated by its interaction partner EWI‐2. Hence, the state of the salt bridge regulates the distribution of CD9 and by this CD9‐EWI‐2 complex formation.

The Dependence of Spectral State Transition and Disk Truncation on Viscosity Parameter $\alpha

open access: yes, 2009
A wealth of Galactic accreting X-ray binaries have been observed both in low/hard state and high/soft state. The transition between these two states was often detected.

Downregulation of sST2, a decoy receptor for interleukin‐33, enhances subcutaneous tumor growth in murine pancreatic cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Subcutaneous implantation of murine Panc02 pancreatic cancer cells depleted of sST2, a soluble decoy receptor for the proinflammatory interleukin‐33 (IL‐33), leads to a decreased number of GLUT4‐positive cancer‐associated adipocytes, reduced levels of the anti‐inflammatory molecule adiponectin, increased phosphorylation of IκBα, elevated Cxcl3 ...

The Luminosity Function of Galaxies as modeled by a left truncated beta distribution

open access: yes, 2014
A first new luminosity functions of galaxies can be built starting from a left truncated beta probability density function, which is characterized by four parameters.

Globular Clusters in Dwarf Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Data are presently available on the luminosities and half-light radii of 101 globular clusters associated with low-luminosity parent galaxies. The luminosity distribution of globulars embedded in dwarf galaxies having $M_{v} > -16$ is found to differ ...

The Stars of Low Luminosity [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 1952
A search has been made among the faint stars with large proper motion found on the Palomar Survey plates for objects that, statistically—judging from their magnitude, color, and proper motion—would appear to be fainter than one ten-thousandth of the sun's luminosity.

In Vitro Modeling of Natural Killer Cell Cytotoxicity to Inform Personalized ALS Therapeutics

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Natural killer (NK) cells might contribute to motor neuron death in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) through direct cytotoxicity, a process that could be inhibited with the FDA‐approved JAK/STAT pathway inhibitor, tofacitinib. This study aimed to verify that tofacitinib can suppress NK cell cytotoxicity, investigate if immune cell
