Introduction to the Techniques of Interferometry and Lunar Occultation in Radio Astronomy

Resonance, 2018
Radio telescopes allow a 24 × 7 observation time window of those regions of the space which appear dark in the visible region. But, the major problem with a single radio telescope is its poor resolution. In this article, the method of interferometry in radio astronomy is discussed by citing the example of a two-element interferometer.

‘Out of a greate laborinth of errors’: Lunar astronomy in London before Kepler

Notes and Records: the Royal Society journal of the history of science, 2021
Johannes Kepler is considered to be the first scholar to have offered an adequate description of heavenly phenomena observed on the Moon's sky. Kepler outlined his ideas in his Somnium (The Dream), written originally in 1609, and subsequently printed in ...

Engineering technologies for lunar-based astronomy

Advances in Space Research, 1994
Abstract Planning is underway to return to the Moon and explore Mars. Scientific outposts on the Moon will conduct a variety of exploration and experimentation, including astronomical observations. For lunar-based astronomy, we propose a progression in capability over time from small automated telescopes to a 16-meter reflector.

Evidence of a hydrated mineral enriched in water and ammonium molecules in the Chang’e-5 lunar sample

Nature Astronomy, 2023
The presence and distribution of water on the Moon are fundamental to our understanding of the Earth–Moon system. Despite extensive laboratory research and remote sensing explorations, the origin and chemical form of lunar water have remained elusive. In

Structural Concepts for Lunar-Based Astronomy

Applied Mechanics Reviews, 1993
Lunar-based astronomy requires structures that provide the required stiffness, strength, and dimensional stability in the challenging lunar vacuum, thermal, radiation, micrometeorite, secondary ejecta, and dust environments. Materials used in the structures must be durable to provide extended service life.

Lunar Radio Astronomy Observatory

1966
Lunar Eadio Astronomy Observatory. Terrestrial, orbital and lunar environments are compared from the radio-astronomical point of view. The terrestrial environment is limited at long waves by the ionosphere, atmospheric noise and man-made interference. The centimeter and shorter waves are plagued by atmospheric absorption and radiation.
