Fractional Luneburg Lens Antenna

IEEE Antennas and Propagation Magazine, 2014
The properties of a unit-fraction section of a spherical Luneburg lens, with two backing ground planes intersecting at the spherical lens's axis, have been evaluated and compared to experimental results. Compared to a full Luneburg lens, the advantage of using a fraction of a Luneburg lens is the reduced weight of the antenna.

Directive radiation from a diffuse Luneburg lens

Optics Letters, 2013
Transformation electromagnetics has opened possibilities for designing antenna structures. Using an analytical approach, we demonstrate here how directive antenna radiation can be achieved from an omnidirectional source behind a diffuse surface. This diffuse surface has been obtained by an optical transformation of a Luneburg lens.

A Flattened Luneburg Lens for the THz Region

Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics, 2021
We describe a Luneburg lens modified with quasi-conformal transformation optics. This device offers the possibility for wide-angle beam steering and reception over a broad bandwidth in the terahertz range.

Cylindrical acoustic Luneburg lens

2014 8th International Congress on Advanced Electromagnetic Materials in Microwaves and Optics, 2014
We developed a two-dimensional acoustic Luneburg lens by changing the density of the medium inside the lens. The lens has a cylindrical shape and composes of about seven hundred aluminum columns with various radii of less than 2cm. It has 15 layers and the diameter of the lens is 60cm.

A Study of Spatial Filter Banks with a Luneburg Lens

IEEE EUROCON 2019 -18th International Conference on Smart Technologies, 2019
Spatial filter banks are proposed in this study. Technical solution with a Luneburg dielectric lens antenna is proposed, and the antenna theory parameters are presented. Three-dimensional Matlab® simulation of a 37-beam spatial filter banks that cover the whole azimuth half-plane is carried out.

Complete analysis of the reduced aberration Luneburg lens

Applied Optics
The modified Luneburg lens, otherwise known as the Gutman lens, is a gradient-index spherical lens whose focus occurs inside the lens in the stigmatic case (aberration-free). When the focus is set to lie outside the lens, spherical aberration is introduced.

The Luneburg lens as a radio telescope element

IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society International Symposium. Transmitting Waves of Progress to the Next Millennium. 2000 Digest. Held in conjunction with: USNC/URSI National Radio Science Meeting (Cat. No.00CH37118), 2002
Serious consideration of the scientific objectives for the next generation decimeter radio telescope includes, as a major objective, the desire to study interstellar hydrogen in the early universe occurring at large red-shifts. This has led to the proposal for a Square Kilometre Array (SKA).

Acoustic imaging with a metamaterial Luneburg lens

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2018
The Luneburg lens is a spherically symmetrical gradient refractive index device with unique imaging properties. Its wide field-of-view and minimal aberration have led it to be successfully applied in microwave antennas. However, only limited realizations of this type of image formation have been demonstrated in acoustics.

Luneburg lens in Silicon-on-Insulator platform

Advanced Photonics, 2011
We discuss the design and experimental demonstration of an integrated Luneburg lens realized in Silicon-on-Insulator platform, via grey-scale lithography. The lens implements on-chip Fourier transform, independently on the angle of incidence.

Luneburg lens for optical waveguide use

Optics Communications, 1974
Abstract Since the apparent refractive index of an optical waveguide depends on its thickness, elements with varying index are relatively easy to fabricate. A method used to make an almost aberration free lens is presented.
