Age of initiation of cigarette smoking and quit attempts among young women in India - evidence from Global Adult Tobacco Survey 2009 and 2017

open access: yesTobacco Induced Diseases, 2018
Background and challenges to implementation We estimate the age at initiation of occasional and regular cigarette smoking among young women (15-24) and estimate the likelihood of quitting smoking through age 35 years.

Alarming attrition rates among HIV-infected individuals in pre-antiretroviral therapy care in Myanmar, 2011–2014 [PDF]

open access: yesGlobal Health Action, 2016
Background: High retention rates have been documented among patients receiving antiretroviral therapy (ART) in Myanmar. However, there is no information on human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected individuals in care before initiation of ART (pre-ART ...

Autoinflammatory disease in the lung [PDF]

open access: yesImmunology, 2018
SummaryAscertaining the dominant cell type driving an immunological disease is essential to understanding the causal pathology and, therefore, selecting or developing an effective treatment. Classifying immunological diseases in this way has led to successful treatment regimens for many monogenic diseases; however, when the dominant cell type is ...

Leveraging current insights on IL‐10‐producing dendritic cells for developing effective immunotherapeutic approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In vivo IL‐10 produced by tissue‐resident tolDC is involved in maintaining/inducing tolerance. Depending on the agent used for ex vivo tolDC generation, cells acquire common features but prime T cells towards anergy, FOXP3+ Tregs, or Tr1 cells according to the levels of IL‐10 produced. Ex vivo‐induced tolDC were administered to patients to re‐establish/

Pulmonary Mycobacterium Simiae infection and HTLV1 infection: an incidental co-infection or a predisposing factor?

open access: yesMonaldi Archives for Chest Disease, 2016
There is little information on atypical mycobacterium and human T lymphothropic virus Type I (HTLV-I) co-infection. We present the first case of pulmonary M. simiae infection in co-infection with HTLV-1, confirmed by ELISA antibody test and Western Blot.

Ablation of LRP6 in alpha‐smooth muscle actin‐expressing cells abrogates lung inflammation and fibrosis upon bleomycin‐induced lung injury

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Low‐density lipoprotein receptor‐related protein 6 (LRP6) is a key receptor for the Wnt antagonist Dickkopf1 (DKK1). DKK1 protein expression is induced in a bleomycin (BLM)‐induced lung injury model. We show that DKK1 induces proinflammatory and profibrotic genes in lung fibroblasts.

Overnight desaturation in interstitial lung diseases: links to pulmonary vasculopathy and mortality

open access: yesERJ Open Research
Background Overnight desaturation predicts poor prognosis across interstitial lung diseases (ILDs). The aim of the present study was to investigate whether nocturnal desaturation is associated with pulmonary vasculopathy and mortality.

Prognostic Significance of Peripheral Artery Disease in Patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome Undergoing Percutaneous Coronary Intervention

open access: yesReviews in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2023
Background: Peripheral artery disease (PAD) elevates the risk of adverse outcomes. The current work aimed to evaluate the influence of PAD in acute coronary syndrome (ACS) cases administered percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), and to determine ...

Characteristics of the Kelch domain containing (KLHDC) subfamily and relationships with diseases

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Kelch protein superfamily includes 63 members, with the KLHDC subfamily having 10 proteins. While their functions are not fully understood, recent advances in KLHDC2's structure and role in protein degradation have highlighted its potential for drug development, especially in PROTAC therapies.
