ERBIN limits epithelial cell plasticity via suppression of TGF‐β signaling

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In breast and lung cancer patients, low ERBIN expression correlates with poor clinical outcomes. Here, we show that ERBIN inhibits TGF‐β‐induced epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in NMuMG breast and A549 lung adenocarcinoma cell lines. ERBIN suppresses TGF‐β/SMAD signaling and reduces TGF‐β‐induced ERK phosphorylation.

Lung volume measurements [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Respiratory Journal, 2008
To the Editor: I read with interest the impressive paper by Cazzola et al. 1 in a recent issue of the European Respiratory Journal . However, I felt somewhat uneasy reading the recommendations on lung volume measurements, i.e. closing circuit dilution …

MET variants with activating N‐lobe mutations identified in hereditary papillary renal cell carcinomas still require ligand stimulation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
MET variants in the N‐lobe of the kinase domain, found in hereditary papillary renal cell carcinoma, require ligand stimulation to promote cell transformation, in contrast to other RTK variants. This suggests that HGF expression in the microenvironment is important for tumor growth in such patients. Their sensitivity to MET inhibitors opens the way for

Telemonitoring Techniques for Lung Volume Measurement: Accuracy, Artifacts and Effort

open access: yesFrontiers in Digital Health, 2020
Telemonitoring becomes more important in pulmonary research. It can be used to decrease the pressure on the health care system, to lower the costs of health care and to increase quality of life of patients.

Computing a Uniform Scaling Parameter for 3D Registration of Lung Surfaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
A difficulty in lung image registration is accounting for changes in the size of the lungs due to inspiration. We propose two methods for computing a uniform scale parameter for use in lung image registration that account for size change.

Quantitative CT analysis in patients with pulmonary emphysema: is lung function influenced by concomitant unspecific pulmonary fibrosis? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Purpose: Quantitative analysis of CT scans has proven to be a reproducible technique, which might help to understand the pathophysiology of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and combined pulmonary fibrosis and emphysema.

Peripheral blood proteome biomarkers distinguish immunosuppressive features of cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Immune status significantly influences cancer progression. This study used plasma proteomics to analyze benign 67NR and malignant 4T1 breast tumor models at early and late tumor stages. Immune‐related proteins–osteopontin (Spp1), lactotransferrin (Ltf), calreticulin (Calr) and peroxiredoxin 2 (Prdx2)–were associated with systemic myeloid‐derived ...

The Effect of Positions on Spirometric Values in Obese Asthmatic Patients

open access: yesIranian Journal of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, 2007
Obesity as a common health risk is increasing all over the world. The aim of this study was evaluation of standing and sitting positions on spirometric values in obese asthmatic patients, in comparison with normal obese subjects.

Should the Functional Residual Capacity be Ignored? [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research, 2013
Aim and Objectives: The functional residual capacity was given the least importance than the other lung volume parameters. Studies have revealed the restrictive pattern of lung disease in patients with liver cirrhosis.

Adverse prognosis gene expression patterns in metastatic castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We aggregated a cohort of 1012 mCRPC tissue samples from 769 patients and investigated the association of gene expression‐based pathways with clinical outcomes. Loss of AR signaling, high proliferation, and a glycolytic phenotype were independently prognostic for poor outcomes, and an adverse transcriptional feature score incorporating these pathways ...
