Measurement of lung volumes by plethysmography [PDF]
There are various ways of measuring absolute lung volume. These range from measurements derived from chest radiographs to the more common laboratory measurements employing either gas dilution or plethysmography. The principal difference between the latter two methods is that gas dilution techniques measure gas that is in free communication with the ...

Tumor microenvironment drives cancer formation and progression. We analyzed the role of human cancer‐associated adipocytes from patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC) stratified as lean, overweight, or obese. RNA‐seq demonstrated that, among the most altered genes involved in the tumor–stroma crosstalk, are ADAM12 and CYP1B1, which were proven to be ...

Repeatability of small lung nodule measurement in low-dose lung screening: a phantom study
Background Lung cancer screening revealed that people with small pulmonary nodules are mostly asymptomatic and that some of these people are at risk of developing lung cancer, so we intended to explore the repeatability of small lung nodule measurement ...

Toward A Quantitative Understanding of Gas Exchange in the Lung [PDF]
In this work we present a mathematical framework that quantifies the gas-exchange processes in the lung. The theory is based on the solution of the one-dimensional diffusion equation on a simplified model of lung septum. Gases dissolved into different compartments of the lung are all treated separately with physiologically important parameters.

CFA with preserved lung volumes [PDF]
Doherty et al 1 seem confident of their ability to distinguish emphysematous spaces from large cystic spaces of honeycomb lung on the basis of a wall thickness on HRCT scanning of greater or less than 1 mm. In cryptogenic fibrosing alveolitis (CFA) we think this is difficult unless an assessment of function (with V/Q scanning or expiratory CT scans) is

CD226+CD8+ T cells express elevated levels of RUNX2, exhibit higher proliferation capacity, cytokines and cytolytic molecules expression, and migratory capacity. In contrast, CD226−CD8+ T cells display an exhausted phenotype associated with the increased expression of co‐inhibitory receptors and impaired effector functions.

3D Neural Network for Lung Cancer Risk Prediction on CT Volumes [PDF]
With an estimated 160,000 deaths in 2018, lung cancer is the most common cause of cancer death in the United States. Lung cancer CT screening has been shown to reduce mortality by up to 40% and is now included in US screening guidelines. Reducing the high error rates in lung cancer screening is imperative because of the high clinical and financial ...
