Age-related changes in Serum Growth Hormone, Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 and Somatostatin in System Lupus Erythematosus

open access: yesBMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, 2004
Background Systemic lupus erythematosus is an age- and gender-associated autoimmune disorder. Previous studies suggested that defects in the hypothalamic/pituitary axis contributed to systemic lupus erythematosus disease progression which could also ...

M6A Modified miR‐31‐5p Suppresses M1 Macrophage Polarization and Autoimmune Dry Eye by Targeting P2RX7

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The upregulation of FTO in autoimmune dry eye suppresses the recognition of pri‐miR‐31 by DGCR8, thereby inhibiting the maturation of miR‐31‐5p and reducing its inhibitory effect on the target gene P2RX7. The activation of P2RX7 subsequently triggers the p38 MAPK signaling pathway and increases the level of M1‐related genes, thus exacerbating the ...

Biomaterials‐based nanoparticles conjugated to regulatory T cells provide a modular system for localized delivery of pharmacotherapeutic agents

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Materials Research Part A, Volume 111, Issue 2, Page 185-197, February 2023., 2023
Abstract Type 1 diabetes (T1D) presents with two therapeutic challenges: the need to correct underlying autoimmunity and restore β‐cell mass. We harnessed the unique capacity of regulatory T cells (Tregs) and the T cell receptor (TCR) to direct tolerance induction along with tissue‐localized delivery of therapeutic agents to restore endogenous β‐cell ...

Systemic lupus erythematosus in African-American women: Cognitive physiological modules, autoimmune disease, and structured psychosocial stress [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2003
Examining elevated rates of systemic lupus erythematosus in African-American women from perspectives of immune cognition suggests the disease constitutes an internalized physiological image of external structured psychosocial stress, a 'pathogenic social hierarchy' involving the synergism of racism and gender discrimination in the context of policy ...

Therapeutic Potential of Lipid Nanoparticle‐Encapsulated CD19‐Targeting mRNAs in Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study develops lipid nanoparticle‐encapsulated mRNA‐encoding antibodies (mRNab‐LNPs) targeting CD19, demonstrating robust anti‐CD19 antibody production in vivo. Intramuscular injection of mRNab‐LNPs reduces CD19+ B and plasma cells in lupus and rheumatoid arthritis mice, significantly alleviating histopathological changes and tissue injuries of ...

Neonatal Lupus Erythematosus

open access: yesJournal of Investigative Dermatology, 1993
Neonatal lupus erythematosus (NLE) is an autoimmune disease whose major findings are subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus (SCLE) skin lesions and congenital heart block. Babies have maternal anti-Ro/SSA, anti-La/SSB, or anti-U1RNP autoantibodies. Anti-Ro/SSA are the predominant autoantibodies, having been found in about 95% of cases.

Peripheral nervous system involvement in systemic lupus erythematosus: a retrospective study on prevalence, associated factors and outcome

open access: yesLupus, 2019
Background Despite its potentially significant impact on disease outcome, peripheral nervous system involvement in systemic lupus erythematosus has received little attention. Objective The objective of this study was to assess the prevalence and clinical

Serum interleukin-17 levels are associated with nephritis in childhood-onset systemic lupus erythematosus

open access: yesClinics, 2015
OBJECTIVES: To determine the serum interleukin-17 (IL-17) levels in childhood-onset systemic lupus erythematosus patients and to evaluate the association between IL-17 and clinical manifestations, disease activity, laboratory findings and treatment ...

A Transcriptome‐Wide Mendelian Randomization Study in Isolated Human Immune Cells Highlights Risk Genes Involved in Viral Infections and Potential Drug Repurposing Opportunities for Schizophrenia

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part B: Neuropsychiatric Genetics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Schizophrenia is a neurodevelopmental psychiatric disorder characterized by symptoms of psychosis, thought disorder, and flattened affect. Immune mechanisms are associated with schizophrenia, though the precise nature of this relationship (causal, correlated, consequential) and the mechanisms involved are not fully understood.
