The EXPLAIN Study: Exploring Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita in Adults in Norway — A Description of Demographic, Medical, and Neurological Findings

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part C: Seminars in Medical Genetics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita (AMC) encompasses several hundred conditions with diverse genetic, pathophysiological, and clinical origins. The overarching EXPLAIN study explores underlying causes and implications of AMC and represents the largest clinical cohort of adults with AMC reported to date.

The methodological perspective in Vygotsky: the dialectical materialism
A perspectiva metodológica em Vygotsky: o materialismo dialético

open access: yesSemina: Ciências Sociais e Humanas, 1994
Some concepts developed by the Soviet Psychology (especially by Vygotsky; Leonliev and Luria) are discussed. Based on the concepts, the historical and dialectic materialism for the children psychological development study are revived.

Historical Highlight: The Luria-Delbrück Fluctuation Test – A Study of the Nature of Bacterial Mutations Conferring Resistance to Infection by Bacteriophage

open access: yesPathogens and Immunity
In 1943, Salvador Luria, then at Indiana University, and Max Delbrück, then at Vanderbilt, published an analysis of mutations in Escherichia coli conferring resistance to infection by bacterial viruses, also referred to as bacteriophages [1].

The sRNA vvrr1 Modulates the VarS/VarA‐Csr System via LeuO to Regulate Biofilm Formation and Virulence in Vibrio alginolyticus

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
vvrr1, a small RNA, post‐transcriptionally represses the transcriptional regulator LeuO, which directly inhibits the VarS/VarA two‐component system. This triggers a Csr cascade that relieves LuxO repression, ultimately modulating exopolysaccharide production to control biofilm formation and virulence in Vibrio alginolyticus.

Polycationic Peptide Engineering of Phage Endolysins Expands Host Range and Enhances Antibacterial and Antibiofilm Activities Against Bacillus Species

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The exponential rise in antimicrobial resistance has highlighted the urgent need for the development of alternative antibacterial strategies, including phage‐derived and engineered protein agents such as endolysins and artilysins. In this study, we report the rational design, expression, and functional characterization of novel artilysins ...

Whole‐Cell Production of Resolvin E2 and 17R‐Resolvin D5 by a Double‐Oxygenating 15S‐Lipoxygenase With 5S‐Lipoxygenase Activity From Pseudobdellovibrionaceae bacterium

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, EarlyView.
A recombinant whole‐cell platform expressing a bacterial 15S‐LOX exhibiting 5S‐LOX activity enabled the stereoselective production of RvE2 and 17R‐RvD5 from 18R‐HEPE and 17R‐HDHA, achieving final concentrations of 0.57 mM and 1.48 mM from 4.0 mM substrates, respectively, under optimized conditions.

Programmable three‐state nanoreactor for spatiotemporally controlled tumor therapy

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
The OMVs are shielded with a biocompatible Da–Ca shell, which prolongs its circulation period and promotes intratumoral accumulation. Importantly, the biocompatible Da–Ca shell can be controllably disintegrated in tumor microenvironment by using laser irradiation, generating in situ hyperthermia and releasing Ca2+.

Hyper memory, synaesthesia, savants Luria and Borges revisited

open access: yesDementia & Neuropsychologia
In this paper, we investigated two subjects with superior memory, or hyper memory: Solomon Shereshevsky, who was followed clinically for years by A. R. Luria, and Funes the Memorious, a fictional character created by J. L. Borges.

Compliant hydrogel cuff coating with real‐time pressure monitoring and antibiofilm capabilities for ventilator‐associated pneumonia prophylaxis

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
A soft‐compliant hydrogel cuff coating combines real‐time pressure monitoring with intrinsic antibacterial activity for prophylaxis of ventilator‐associated pneumonia. A flexible pressure‐sensing patch is embedded in the coating to enable wireless dynamic monitoring of endotracheal cuff pressure through Bluetooth.
