PGF2α inhibits VEGF Expression in the Corpus Luteum in the Mid but not Early Luteal Phase of the Sheep Estrous Cycle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) is important for blood vessel development in a variety of tissues including an ovarian structure, the corpus luteum (CL).

Effects of Nonablative Er‐YAG Laser on Human Endometrial Stromal Cells (hESCs): A Pilot Study

open access: yesLasers in Surgery and Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives To investigate the thermo‐chemical effects of nonablative Er:YAG laser on human endometrial stromal cells (hESCs). Materials and Methods In this laboratory based study, for the hESCs cultures, endometrial tissue biopsy samples were obtained from three fertile women in the late proliferative phase.

Anti‐Müllerian hormone concentrations in female rabbits and its relation to spay status, pseudopregnancy and ovarian follicle numbers

open access: yesReproduction in Domestic Animals, Volume 57, Issue 12, Page 1636-1643, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Anti‐Müllerian hormone (AMH), known for its role during foetal sexual differentiation, is secreted by the Sertoli cells in males and the granulosa cells in females during post‐natal life. As serum AMH concentrations correlate with follicle numbers, AMH is utilized as a marker of ovarian reserve in many species. In dogs and cats, AMH is used as

Geometric phase in dephasing systems [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. A 71, 044101(2005), 2005
Beyond the quantum Markov approximation, we calculate the geometric phase of a two-level system driven by a quantized magnetic field subject to phase dephasing. The phase reduces to the standard geometric phase in the weak coupling limit and it involves the phase information of the environment in general.

Is Breastfeeding the Moral Equivalent of Emergency Contraception in Inducing Early Pregnancy Loss? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This paper provides a counter-argument to the notion that breastfeeding acts as an abortifacient and is thus the moral equivalent of abortion-causing drugs, e.g., Plan B or what is referred to as emergency contraception. Those who make this comparison do

Characteristics of the Menstrual Cycle After Discontinuation of Oral Contraceptives [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background: Menstrual cycle function may continue to be altered after discontinuation of oral contraceptives (OC). Few studies have been published on the effects of recent OC use on menstrual cycle parameters; none have examined characteristics of the

The post‐ovulatory rise in progesterone is lower and the persistence of oestrous behaviour longer during the first compared with the second cycle of the breeding season in mares

open access: yesReproduction in Domestic Animals, Volume 58, Issue 1, Page 141-145, January 2023., 2023
Abstract Mares are seasonally polyoestrous breeders. Therefore, the first ovulation of the season, following winter anoestrus, is the only cycle in which mares ovulate without the presence of an old CL from the previous cycle. The objective of this study was to compare the length of oestrous behaviour, and plasma progesterone concentrations during the ...

Luteal inadequacy during the early luteal phase of subfertile cows [PDF]

open access: yesReproduction, 1990
A study was made of early luteal function (up to Day 6) in cyclic and pregnant heifers and also in older, subfertile cows. There were no differences in vivo or in vitro between cyclic and pregnant heifers, indicating no luteotrophic effect of the embryo at this stage, but the increase in postovulatory peripheral progesterone concentrations was delayed (

Common approaches to introduced species management face widespread acceptance problems in the United States

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract Decisions on whether and how to manage introduced species can be controversial, but public attitudes towards introduced species management (ISM) are poorly understood. Despite the potential disruptive impacts of such controversies on public relations and conservation goals, decision‐makers are currently left with little information on the ...
