Molecular evidence that sugarcane yellow leaf virus (ScYLV) is amember of the Luteoviridae family

open access: yesArchives of Virology, 2000
A previously uncharacterized virus was reported in southeast Brazil causing a yellowing leaf disease in sugarcane. The virus, termed sugarcane yellow leaf virus (ScYLV), shares features typical of the luteoviruses. To start the molecular characterization of ScYLV, the nucleotide sequence of the coat protein (CP), 17 kDa protein and C-terminus of the ...

A major quantitative trait allele for resistance to the Sugarcane yellow leaf virus (Luteoviridae)

open access: yesPlant Breeding, 2012
With 1 figure and 1 tableAbstractThe yellow leaf disease of sugarcane is distributed worldwide and causes important yield losses. This disease is caused by a member of the Luteoviridae family, the Sugarcane yellow leaf virus (SCYLV). The objective of this study was to characterize genetic factors for resistance to yellow leaf disease in a sugarcane ...

Detection and discrimination of members of the family Luteoviridae by real-time PCR and SYBR® GreenER™ melting curve analysis

open access: yesJournal of Virological Methods, 2011
This study investigated the suitability of a two step real-time RT-PCR melting curve analysis as a tool for the detection and discrimination of nine species in the plant virus family Luteoviridae, being Soybean dwarf virus [SbDV], Bean leafroll virus [BLRV], Beet chlorosis virus [BChV], Beet mild yellowing virus [BMYV], Beet western yellows virus [BWYV]

Occurrence of viruses of the familyLuteoviridaeon maize and some annual weed grasses in the Czech Republic

open access: yesCereal Research Communications, 2006
The occurrence of virus of the family Luteoviridae on maize and annual grasses was studied in the south region of the Czech Republic during three years. On maize and annual weed grasses no BYDV-MAV and CYDV-RPV pathogens were found in test samples. Out of 246 maize samples taken, BYDV-PAV was found in 50 of them.

Potato leafroll virus (PLRV;Genus Polerovirus; Family Luteoviridae)

2001
Symptoms of primary infection by PLRV consist of pallor and upward rolling of young leaves, especially at the base, with an upright habit. The edges of young leaflets of some cultivars may develop reddening. Secondary symptoms, in plants grown from infected tubers, are stunting of the shoots and upward rolling of leaflets, especially of basal leaves ...

Relationships of Barley yellow dwarf virus-PAV and Cereal yellow dwarf virus-RPV from Iran with viruses of the family Luteoviridae

European Journal of Plant Pathology, 2005
Barley yellow dwarf disease is one of the most important problems confronting cereal production in Iran. Barley yellow dwarf virus-PAV (BYDV-PAV) and Cereal yellow dwarf virus-RPV (CYDV-RPV) are the predominant viruses associated with the disease. One isolate of BYDV-PAV from wheat (PAV-IR) and one isolate of CYDV-RPV from barley (RPV-IR) were selected

Thermodynamic Analysis of Conserved Loop−Stem Interactions in P1−P2 Frameshifting RNA Pseudoknots from Plant Luteoviridae

Biochemistry, 2002
The RNA genomes of plant luteovirids beet western yellows virus (BWYV), potato leaf roll virus (PLRV), and pea enation mosaic virus (PEMV RNA1; PEMV-1) contain a short mRNA pseudoknotted motif overlapping the P1 and P2 open reading frames required for programmed -1 mRNA ribosomal frameshifting.
