The webbing reef: a tool used in the study of juvenile red snapper (Lutjanus campechanus)
Oceans '02 MTS/IEEE, 2003The primary purpose for requiring shrimp trawlers to use bycatch reduction gear in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico is to reduce the incidental capture and mortality of juvenile red snapper (Lutjanus campechanus). Developing effective bycatch reduction devices (BRDs) for this purpose requires a good understanding of juvenile snapper behavior and their reaction ...

Abstract Epizootics of the holotrichous ciliate, Cryptocaryon irritans , have impeded monoculture of red snapper, Lutjanus campechanus , at the Florida Department of Natural Resources facilities in St. Petersburg, Florida. Cryptocaryoniasis was associated with most mortalities and was controlled only in one group of red snapper being conditioned ...

Identification of Red Snapper ( Lutjanus campechanus ) using Electrophoretic Techniques
Journal of Food Science, 1995ABSTRACT Isoelectric focusing (IEF), sodium dodecyl sulfate‐polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS‐PAGE), and two‐dimensional (2‐D) gel electrophoresis were employed to produce protein profiles for species identification of red snapper and 11 other fish species.

Egg and larval quality of natural and induced spawns of red snapper, Lutjanus campechanus
Fish Physiology and Biochemistry, 2003Egg and larval quality of red snapper, Lutjanus campechanus from natural spawns of domesticated brooders and hormone-induced spawns of wild fish were compared. Eggs and larvae from natural spawns were found to be more viable in terms of fertilization, hatching and survival rate.

Abstract Preliminary field observations have suggested that an inclined water flow out of a trawl escape opening may increase escapes of fish during shrimp trawling. To determine whether the frequent escapes observed were due to this phenomenon, we studied the swimming performance of nine juvenile red snappers and five juvenile pinfish in an inclined

Experiments were conducted to test whether coring and pulverizing juvenile red snapper otoliths affected their chemical signatures, which consisted of element:Ca ratios (Ba:Ca, Li:Ca, Mg:Ca, Mn:Ca, and Sr:Ca) and stable isotope delta values (δ13C and δ18O). Analysis of otolith pairs revealed no significant difference in elemental (Hotelling’s paired T2,
