DEET‐cyclodextrin inclusion complexes for mosquito and tick repellency: Extended repellency time and no zebrafish embryotoxicity

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 10, Page 9653-9665, October 2026.
Hydroxypropyl‐β‐cyclodextrin (HPβCD)–N,N‐diethyl‐meta‐toluamide (DEET) complex extended tick repellency to 168 h. Full protection against Aedes aegypti for 7 h with HPβCD‐DEET. HPβCD reduced DEET release and skin retention significantly. No embryotoxicity observed below 325 mg L−1 in zebrafish model.

Good days, bad days: Weather patterns driving bryophyte carbon‐exchange dynamics in tropical rainforest canopies

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 40, Issue 10, Page 3260-3275, October 2026.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract The physiology of tropical mosses, liverworts and lichens may be challenged by the daily weather patterns in lowland rainforests. Since these poikilohydric organisms can only photosynthesize and respire when hydrated, unfavourable timing of light and water availability (

Can landscape management provide disease regulation services? A case study of Brazilian spotted fever incidence

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 10, October 2026.
Policy implications. Our results can help prioritize surveillance strategies and the implementation of preventive measures, particularly in areas where landscape structures cannot provide disease regulation services. Landscape management actions aimed at increasing the amount of forest areas in a more aggregated manner could help restore those ...

Milk and infant plasma hormone concentrations predict sweet and fat taste acceptance and later food intake

open access: yesJournal of Neuroendocrinology, Volume 38, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Early‐life exposure to metabolic hormones may influence the development of taste acceptance and subsequent intake of hyperpalatable foods (HPF) in infants, but evidence integrating hormonal, behavioral, and dietary data in humans is limited.
