In Vitro Hemocompatibility of the BiVACOR Total Artificial Heart in Continuous and Pulsatile Flow
BiVACOR's total artificial heart generates remarkably similar hemocompatibility when operated with a pulse or during continuous flow. Under both conditions, hemolysis and von Willebrand Factor multimers were similar to a commercial reference device after 6 h in vitro evaluation.

In this large multicenter study, AF before LVAD implantation was not associated with increased risks of mortality, bleeding, stroke, or pump thrombosis, but was linked to a higher incidence of late VAs. ABSTRACT Introduction A substantial proportion of patients receiving left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) present with pre‐existing atrial ...

Trial‐Based Hemolysis Modeling to Investigate Operating Modes of Continuous‐Flow LVADs
This work presents a methodology for determining online‐capable hemolysis models for continuous‐flow LVADs, derived from in vitro trials. The models are based on fitting a modified power law and applying the Lagrangian approach. They assist clinicians in selecting treatment strategies that minimize hemolysis, as demonstrated with the Sputnik1 LVAD ...

Percutaneous Intervention of LVAD Outflow Graft Obstruction and Thrombosis
Left ventricular assist devices serve as a salvage therapy for patients with advanced heart failure. Complications such as thrombosis and obstruction can lead to acute device malfunction, posing significant clinical risks. A multidisciplinary approach is

Slope of the anterior mitral valve leaflet: A new measurement of left ventricular unloading for left ventricular assist devices and systolic dysfunction [PDF]
Left ventricular assist device (LVAD)-supported patients are evaluated routinely with use of transthoracic echocardiography. Values of left ventricular unloading in this unique patient population are needed to evaluate LVAD function and assist in patient

AI‐Assisted Decision‐Making for End‐Stage Organ Failure: Opportunities and Ethical Concerns
Artificial intelligence (AI) can help physicians make better decisions for people with serious organ problems by analyzing medical data to predict outcomes. Patients want AI to support, not replace, personal care from doctors. Collaboration among experts ensures AI tools respect patient values and privacy.

Background. Inflammation is a critical process contributing to heart failure (HF). We hypothesized that IL-33/ST2 pathway, a new mechanism regulated during cardiac stress, may be involved in the functional worsening of end-stage HF patients, candidates ...
