Ecological predictors of plant responses to sequential herbivory: a meta‐analysis

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Plants evolved alongside herbivores for over 400 million years and show remarkable plasticity in responses to attack by multiple herbivores. However, it is often debated which herbivore traits predict plant responses and it is poorly understood how plant life‐history traits contribute to the variation observed in plant responses.

Fruit respiration: putting alternative pathways into perspective

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Over the past century, research has significantly advanced our understanding of fruit respiration, from (eco)physiological processes to molecular mechanisms. This review focuses on the functional relevance and regulatory roles of mitochondrial alternative respiratory pathways (ARPs) during fruit growth and ripening.

Caracterização e avaliação de acilaçúcar sintético no comportamento da mosca-branca Bemisia Tabaci (Gennadius, 1886) biótipo B (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) em tomateiro Characterization and evaluation of synthetic acylsugar on the behavior of the whitefly Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius, 1886) b biotype (hemiptera: aleyrodidae) in tomato plant

open access: yesCiência e Agrotecnologia, 2008
O cultivo de tomate é uma atividade de destaque no Brasil em termos de produção e consumo e os estados de Goiás, São Paulo e Minas Gerais são os principais produtores.

Root tip excision‐induced exodermis lignification impacts lateral root emergence in Brachypodium distachyon

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary The mechanisms controlling lateral root emergence in monocots, particularly the role of the exodermis, are poorly understood. We investigated how natural variation in the Brachypodium distachyon stress response shapes root system architecture by modulating cell wall dynamics.

A PLETHORA3/7 transcription factor shapes cucumber shoot architecture

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary PLETHORA transcription factors (PLTs) are master regulators of plant development. Loss of shoot meristematic PLTs leads to reduced phyllotactic regularity and robustness in Arabidopsis and increased inflorescence branching in tomato. Whether these factors have similar functions in other species is not known.

Field Evaluation of Herbicides on Small Fruit, Vegetable, and Ornamental Crops, 1997 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Growers generally use herbicides to efficiently produce high-quality fruit and vegetables for processing or fresh market sales. Due to the smaller acreage of these crops compared to major field crops, fewer herbicides are registered for use in fruit and ...

Epigenetic regulation of mycorrhizal symbioses: from plastic responses to transgenerational legacies

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Mycorrhizal symbioses represent one of the most widespread and ecologically significant plant–microbe interactions, shaping plant nutrition, stress resilience, and ecosystem functioning. Beyond their role in nutrient exchange and systemic defense, growing evidence suggests that these symbioses also influence plant plasticity within and across ...

EBSn, a Robust Synthetic Reporter for Monitoring Ethylene Responses in Plants

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Ethylene is a gaseous plant hormone that controls a wide array of physiologically relevant processes, including plant responses to biotic and abiotic stress, and induces ripening in climacteric fruits. To monitor ethylene in plants, analytical methods, phenotypic assays, gene expression analysis and transcriptional or translational reporters ...

A Fungal Cysteine‐Rich Protein SsSCP Activates Immune Responses and Confers Broad‐Spectrum Disease Resistance in Tomato

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Plant immune systems recognise pathogen‐derived molecular patterns to activate defence responses, yet the mechanisms underlying fungal pattern recognition in crops remain largely unclear. Here, we characterise the cysteine‐rich secretory protein SsSCP from the broad‐host‐range fungal pathogen Sclerotinia sclerotiorum as a potent elicitor of ...
