In this review, we examine the plant group Solanum sect. Lycopersicon - a clade of 13 species, including the domesticated tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) and its wild relatives - along with four allied species in the immediate outgroups Solanum sects. Juglandifolia and Lycopersicoides.

1991During the last 30 years tomato breeders have succeeded in attaining significant improvement of the crop for yields, quality and resistance attributes. However, the problems of fruit quality, improvement of the content of sugars, dry matter, vitamins therein were not solved.

Changes in [Ca?????]cyt in elicitor-treated cells were determined, and the calcium-dependent increase of chitinase activity and callose accumulation were analyzed. At first, the trigger range of calcium concentration changes was shown. This range limits the callose accumulation, but does not block an increase of chitinase activity in tomato cells.
