Using an F1 hybrid between Lycopersicon esculentum and L. pennellii (2n = 2x = 24) and its BC1 progeny, an attempt was made to cytologically differentiate the genomes through genomic in situ hybridisation (GISH). When total genomic DNA of L. pennellii was used as a probe with a concentration of 2 μg/μl and the stringency of hybridisation being 50% to ...

Acylsugars exuded from type IV trichomes mediate the multiple pest resistance found in the wild tomato species, Lycopersicon pennellii. A marker-assisted selection breeding program was used to attempt the transfer of the ability to accumulate acylsugars to cultivated tomato.

Feeding behavior of the green peach aphid, Myzus persicae (Sulzer), differed on Lycopersicon pennelli (Corell) D Arcy (LA 716) and ‘VFT Vendor’ tomato ( L. esculentum [Mill.]). Fewer aphids initiated feeding on L. pennellii (LA 716), and time to first probe was significantly greater. Also, percentage of time spent probing and number of probes were less

The cytoplasmic male-sterile (CMS) line CMS-pennellii (BC10P2 L. peruvianum×L. pennellii) and its complex hybrids with L. esculentum were studied. The established sterility was classified as the sporogenous type. As a result of the interaction of the genome of L. pennellii and the cytoplasm of L.

SummaryThis paper describes an efficient protocol for in vitro regeneration and genetic transformation from leaf explants of L. pennellii (Corr. D'Arcy). Shoot organogenesis was achieved on media with different combinations of indole-acetic acid (IAA) and kinetin (K). Regeneration ratios ranged from 50 to 90%.

We have previously described gene introgression from the wild nightshade Solanum lycopersicoides into tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum) through the use of either diploid or sesquidiploid hybrids (the latter consisting of two genomes of L. esculentum and one genome of S. lycopersicoides).

Separation of bitter and nonbitter glucolipid from Lycopersicon Pennellii by liquid/liquid partition
Phytochemical Analysis, 1990AbstractSolvent extraction of the aerial portions of Lycopersicon pennellii afforded a dark green lipid extract with bitter taste and unpleasant odour. This total lipid was separted into colorless, odourless, bitter and nonbitter glucolipid fractions by liquid/liquid partition.

Abstract Proline levels were measured in leaf discs of the salt sensitive Lycopersicon esculentum (Mill) cv P‐73 and the salt tolerant L. pennellii (Correll), D'Arcy, accession PE 47. Proline accumulation constitutes an index of NaCl sensitivity: when submitted for 8 h to 100 mM NaCl, the excised leaves of the salt‐sensitive tomato accumulated the ...

The organization of the mitochondrial genome and the genotype of the chloroplast genome was characterized using restriction fragment length polymorphisms in a population (82 individuals) of symmetric and asymmetric somatic hybrids of tomato. The protoplast fusion products were regenerated following the fusion of leaf mesophyll protoplasts of ...

Amino acid pools and enzyme activities of NH3-assimilation (glutamine synthetase, glutamate synthase), proline biosynthesis (pyrroline-5-carboxylate reductase), proline catabolism (proline dehydrogenase, proline oxidase), and ornithine transamination (ornithine transaminase) were determined in control and salinized (140 mM NaCl) calli from tomato roots.
