No phylogenomic support for a Cenozoic origin of the "living fossil" Isoetes. [PDF]
Abstract Premise The isoetalean lineage has a rich fossil record that extends to the Devonian, but the age of the living clade is unclear. Recent results indicate that it is young, from the Cenozoic, whereas earlier work based on less data from a denser taxon sampling yielded Mesozoic median ages.

ABSTRACT The unique morphology of quillworts has received limited attention, and such studies have been limited to only a few species. Our extensive field work during the past two decades has revealed variation in the structures of the plant, including the rhizomorph, scales, phyllopodia, and abscission caps.

phylogatR: Phylogeographic data aggregation and repurposing. [PDF]
Abstract Patterns of genetic diversity within species contain information the history of that species, including how they have responded to historical climate change and how easily the organism is able to disperse across its habitat. More than 40,000 phylogeographic and population genetic investigations have been published to date, each collecting ...

Description of the rate-limiting hydrogen tunneling mechanism for plant 9- and 13-lipoxygenases. [PDF]
Abstract Soybean lipoxygenase (GmLOX1), a plant 13‐LOX, has long been considered a model protein for non‐trivial, quantum hydrogen tunneling in enzyme catalysis. Hydrogen tunneling mechanisms have also been confirmed for LOXs across mammalian, fungal, and bacterial kingdoms.

The Huperzia selago Shoot Tip Transcriptome Sheds New Light on the Evolution of Leaves. [PDF]
Lycopodiophyta—consisting of three orders, Lycopodiales, Isoetales and Selaginellales, with different types of shoot apical meristems (SAMs)—form the earliest branch among the extant vascular plants.

Identification and characterization of BAHD hydroxycinnamoyltransferases in the fern Neoblechnum brasiliense. [PDF]
Significance Statement Nine BAHD acyltransferases have been identified and characterized in the fern Neoblechnum brasiliense transferring hydroxycinnamoyl units onto various alcohol and amine acceptor substrates. Kinetic characterization showed that shikimic and quinic acids for ester formation as well as 3‐hydroxyanthranilic acid and tryptamine for ...

TOM1 family conservation within the plant kingdom for tobacco mosaic virus accumulation
The TOM1 family has an ancient origin, and its ability to promote tobacco mosaic virus multiplication and interact with other components of the virus replication complex is highly conserved in the plant kingdom. Abstract The susceptibility factor TOBAMOVIRUS MULTIPLICATION 1 (TOM1) is required for efficient multiplication of tobacco mosaic virus (TMV).

N‐SDM: a high‐performance computing pipeline for Nested Species Distribution Modelling
Predicting contemporary and future species distributions is relevant for science and decision making, yet the development of high‐resolution spatial predictions for numerous taxonomic groups and regions is limited by the scalability of available modelling tools. Uniting species distribution modelling (SDM) techniques into one high‐performance computing

ABCG subfamily proteins are highly enriched in terrestrial plants. Many of these proteins secrete secondary metabolites that repel or inhibit pathogens. To establish why the ABCG subfamily proteins proliferated extensively during evolution, we constructed phylogenetic trees from a broad range of eukaryotic organisms.
