Wiener klinische Wochenschrift / Secondary dementia due to Lyme neuroborreliosis

open access: yes, 2018
Dementia-like syndromes are rare manifestations of Lyme neuroborreliosis. The clinical patterns are summarized using our own cases and case reports from the literature, which were diagnosed as definite Lyme neuroborreliosis according to the European ...

Oral Doxycycline Was a Safe and Feasible Treatment in Young Children With Neuroborreliosis

open access: yesActa Paediatrica, Volume 114, Issue 8, Page 2061-2065, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Aim There is limited evidence on the use of oral doxycycline in young children. We evaluated the feasibility and effectiveness of doxycycline in children under 9 years with neuroborreliosis. Methods This retrospective study included all children under 9 years of age treated for neuroborreliosis in the Capital Region of Denmark from 2019 to ...

Kappa Free Light Chain Index and Oligoclonal Bands in Varicella Zoster Virus Infection and Neuroborreliosis: A Matter of Timing?

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neurology, Volume 32, Issue 8, August 2025.
In Varicella‐zoster virus related neurological disease (VZD) and Lyme neuroborreliosis (LNB), the κ‐free light chain (FLC) index was more frequently positive than oligoclonal bands (OCB), particularly in cases with shorter disease duration. This suggests that the κ‐FLC index may be a more sensitive marker of (sub)acute intrathecal inflammation ...

Borrelia burgdorferi Infection Is Worth Screening to Investigate Sensorineural Hearing Loss Etiology: A Systematic Review

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 8, Issue 7, July 2025.
ABSTRACT Background and Aim Sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) is a common hearing disorder prevalent. Borrelia burgdorferi (B. burgdorferi) is a spirochete whose infection has been shown to result in SNHL. This systematic review aims to investigate the prevalence and association of B. burgdorferi infection in SNHL.

Clinical Characteristics in Danish Children and Adults Diagnosed With Neuroborreliosis: A Retrospective Study From January 2016 to January 2024

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neurology, Volume 32, Issue 7, July 2025.
ABSTRACT Introduction Lyme neuroborreliosis (NB), is caused by tick‐borne spirochetes in the Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato (Bbsl) genospecies complex. Although the clinical manifestations of NB in adults and children are well documented, understanding neurobiological differences between these groups can improve diagnostic accuracy and treatment ...

Immunoblot analysis of the seroreactivity to recombinant Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato antigens, including VlsE, in the long-term course of treated patients with Erythema migrans [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Objective: We evaluated whether immunoblotting is capable of substantiating the posttreatment clinical assessment of patients with erythema migrans ( EM), the hallmark of early Lyme borreliosis.

Lyme Neuroborreliosis Manifesting as an Intracranial Mass Lesion

open access: yes, 1992
Lyme neuroborreliosis is one of the chronic manifestations of Lyme disease and is caused by the neurotropic spirochete, Borrelia burgdorferi. Two of the three stages of Lyme disease potentially involve the central nervous system: A second stage that may ...

Chitinase‐3‐Like 1 Protein (CHI3L1) Levels in Patients With Cognitive Deficits and Movement Disorders: Comparison With Other Biomarkers

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 15, Issue 6, June 2025.
This study examines chitinase‐3‐like 1 protein (CHI3L1) as a diagnostic tool for patients with cognitive and movement disorders. Serum CHI3L1 levels correlate with neurofilament light chain and cognitive impairment measured by the Mini‐Mental State Examination (MMSE). CHI3L1 may serve as a supportive biomarker in these diseases.
