Oedema in obesity; role of structural lymphatic abnormalities

International Journal of Obesity, 2011
Oedema is a common finding in obesity and its cause is not always clear. Possible causes include impairment of cardiac, respiratory and/or renal function, chronic venous insufficiency and lymphatic problems. Lymphoscintigraphy is the best method to detect structural lymphatic abnormalities that can cause lymphoedema. We reviewed 49 female subjects with

Abnormal pulmonary lymphatic flow in patients with paediatric pulmonary lymphatic disorders: Diagnosis and treatment

Paediatric Respiratory Reviews, 2020
Pulmonary lymphatic disorders are characterized by the presence of the abnormal lymphatic tissues in the thoracic cavity, presenting clinically as chylothorax, chylopericardium, chyloptysis, interstitial lung disease and plastic bronchitis. These conditions include: neonatal chylothorax, cardiac and non-cardiac plastic bronchitis, non-traumatic ...

Lymphocyte subpopulations in children with abnormal lymphatic circulation

Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, 1989
Peripheral blood lymphocyte subsets were enumerated in five children with abnormal lymphatic circulation (three with lymphangiectasia, one with chylothorax, and one child with chyloperitoneum). All patients were lymphopenic. The percentage and absolute number of blood T-lymphocytes (CD3) were low in two children and normal in the other children.

Acrylamide Gel Electrophoretic Abnormalities in Chronic Lymphatic Leukemic Sera

American Journal of Clinical Pathology, 1971
Using disk acrylamide gel electrophoresis, an abnormal pattern was found in all sera from patients with chronic lymphatic leukemia but in none of the sera from normal persons or patients with lymphosarcoma. The abnormality is the presence of an intense band (X) cathodal to the usual pretransferrin band (P) of normal sera. The P bands were either absent

Lymphatic abnormalities in fetuses with posterior cervical cystic hygroma

American Journal of Medical Genetics, 1989
AbstractWe studied the structure and number of lymph vessels in 12 spontaneously aborted previable fetuses with posterior cervical cystic hygroma and generalized edema of variable origin (monosomy X, trisomy 21, trisomy 13, suspected Noonan syndrome, and lethal multiple pterygium syndrome) and compared them to 5 therapeutically aborted, apparently ...

Prenatal diagnosis of fetal lymphatic system abnormalities by Ultrasound

Journal of Clinical Ultrasound, 1979
AbstractAntenatal ultrasound diagnoses of gross lymphatic system abnormalities were made in three fetuses. Although the diagnosis was made in only 1 fetus at a stage early enough in pregnancy to allow selective termination, knowledge of the abnormality in the remaining 2 fetuses proved to be valuable for subsequent management of those pregnancies.

Lymphatic abnormalities demonstrated by lymphoscintigraphy after lower limb cellulitis

British Journal of Dermatology, 2008
Cellulitis is a common cause for admission to hospital, and repeated episodes are thought to damage the lymphatic system. Lymphoedema is recognized as a condition predisposing to cellulitis but there are no data to suggest its prevalence among a population presenting to hospital with acute cellulitis. To ascertain whether lymphatic abnormalities ...

Abnormal lymphatic vessel development in neuropilin 2 mutant mice

Development, 2002
Neuropilin 2 is a receptor for class III semaphorins and for certain members of the vascular endothelial growth factor family. Targeted inactivation of the neuropilin 2 gene (Nrp2) has previously shown its role in neural development. We report that neuropilin 2 expression in the vascular system is restricted to veins and lymphatic vessels.

Uncovering Lymphatic Transport Abnormalities in Patients with Primary Lipedema

Journal of Reconstructive Microsurgery, 2019
Abstract Background Although lipedema is often clinically distinguished from lymphedema, there is considerable overlap between the two entities. The purpose of this study was to evaluate lymphoscintigraphic findings in patients with lipedema to better characterize lymphatic flow in this patient population.

Congenital pulmonary lymphangiectasis with chylothorax: A heterogeneous lymphatic vessel abnormality

American Journal of Medical Genetics, 1993
AbstractWe report on 7 perinatal autopsy cases of primary congenital pulmonary lymphangiectasis (CPL) with bilateral chylothorax. This study demonstrates that primary CPL is often complicated by chylous pleural effusions with ensuing pulmonary hypoplasia.
