Enterocolic Lymphocytic Phlebitis With Lymphocytic Colitis, Lymphocytic Appendicitis, and Lymphocytic Enteritis

The American Journal of Surgical Pathology, 2004
We describe a 53-year-old man with a history of diarrhea temporally related to the use of flutamide. He developed an acute abdomen, and presented with an ileocecal intussusception due to an edematous ischemic cecum. The ischemia was due to enterocolic lymphocytic phlebitis (ELP), with numerous associated thrombi.

Lymphocytic Hypophysitis

Hormone Research in Paediatrics, 2001
Background:Lymphocytic hypophysitis is a disorder of the pituitary gland that presents as a sellar mass lesion and/or hypopituitarism. It causes pituicyte destruction and hypopituitarism and is speculated to have an autoimmune basis.

T lymphocytes

The International Journal of Biochemistry & Cell Biology, 2003
T cells are major players in the adaptive immune response to pathogens. They express clonally distributed, highly polymorphic antigen receptors that enable them to recognize cell-associated antigen. Upon antigen recognition, T cells undergo clonal amplification and progressively acquire effector functions, ranging from the production of paracrine ...

Lymphocyte Homing

Research in Immunology, 1989
The phenomenon of "homing" is discussed with respect to patterns of lymphocyte circulation and the molecules on the surface of both endothelium and lymphocytes that mediate this process. In addition, the data are analysed in the context of a model for lymphocyte homing.

Lymphocytic hypophysitis

Journal of Clinical Neuroscience, 2003
Lymphocytic hypophysitis is a rare but important cause of pituitary hypofunction which predominantly affects young women in the peripartum period. It is believed to be an autoimmune disorder with an association with other autoimmune disorders and expression of anti-pituitary cytosolic and anti-nuclear antibodies. Clinically, it presents most frequently

Lymphocyte homeostasis

Seminars in Immunology, 1997
B- and T-lymphocyte populations have an independent homeostatic regulation of resting (B and T) and activated (B) or memory (T) cell compartments. This organization may provide an efficient mechanism to ensure simultaneously a first natural barrier of protection against common pathogens, the maintenance of immunological T-cell memory and a reservoir of

Lymphocyte cooperation

Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series B. Biological Sciences, 1971
Figure 1 illustrates schematically a mechanism that my colleagues and I believe may participate in the cooperative effect in antibody formation. Its essential feature is that thymus-derived cells, in response to antigen, release a soluble factor that is cytophilic for local macrophages and there binds antigen for presentation to the antibody-forming ...
