Precision and accuracy of absolute lymphocyte counts

Clinical Immunology and Immunopathology, 1989
A critique of leukocyte counting using automated hematology instruments is presented. Important preanalytical variables include the anticoagulant and specimen assay delays. The precision of counts is directly related to the number of leukocytes counted.

EFFECT OF TERIFLUNOMIDE ON LYMPHOCYTE AND NEUTROPHIL COUNTS [PDF]

open access: possibleJournal of Neurology, Neurosurgery & Psychiatry, 2015
IntroductionTeriflunomide is an immunomodulator known to decrease the proliferation of stimulated lymphocytes via inhibition of dihydro-orotate dehydrogenase. Lymphocyte/neutrophil counts were assessed in pooled data from one phase 2 and three phase 3 (TEMSO, TOWER, and TOPIC) placebo-controlled studies.MethodsPatients were randomized to receive once ...

Changes in total lymphocyte count and neutrophil‐to‐lymphocyte ratio after curative pancreatectomy in patients with pancreas adenocarcinoma and their prognostic role

Journal of Surgical Oncology, 2019
To assess the prognostic significance of postoperative changes in immune status represented by total lymphocyte count (TLC) and neutrophil‐to‐lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in resectable pancreatic cancer.

Total Lymphocyte Count as a Surrogate for CD4+ Lymphocyte Count in African Patients Coinfected With HIV and Tuberculosis

Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes and Human Retrovirology, 1996
In South Africa researchers compared the concurrent total lymphocyte counts (TLCs) and CD4+ T cell counts of 128 HIV positive patients with pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) with those of 703 HIV positive patients without TB to determine the practicality of TLCs as a marker of severe immunosuppression in patients with HIV and TB.

Is total lymphocyte count a reliable predictor of the CD4 lymphocyte cell count in resource-limited settings?

AIDS, 2004
Although the depletion of CD4 T cells remains the most reliable marker for estimating the degree of immunosuppression in HIV-1-infected individuals several authors have investigated the possible prognostic and predictive role offered by total lymphocyte count (TLC) as a surrogate of the CD4 cell count in resource-limited settings (RLS).

Helping pathologists to count: Using Artificial Intelligence to count lymphocytes

2021
Lymphocytes have been found to be important biomarkers in multiple tumors. However, automating lymphocyte counting on tissue images is not a trivial task. These tissue images are massive in size, requires a certain set of rules to be followed when being analysed and moreover, the counts produced by different annotators for the same tissue often are not

On-chip counting the number and the percentage of CD4+ T lymphocytes

Lab Chip, 2008
A novel technique is reported for counting the number and the percentage of CD4+ T lymphocytes in a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) microchannel. This system integrates optical fluorescence detection with resistive pulse sensing enhanced by a metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET).

Serial CD4 lymphocyte counts and development of AIDS

The Lancet, 1991
Low CD4 lymphocyte counts are associated with increased risk of progression to AIDS in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. We investigated the extent to which the timing of progression to AIDS can be explained solely in terms of decline of the CD4 lymphocyte count in 111 haemophiliacs followed for up to 11 years since infection with HIV.

Lymphocyte counts and the development of nosocomial sepsis

Intensive Care Medicine, 1997
ously into the infrarenal IVC the same day. An attempt to place a left internal jugular vein catheter was made 5 days later. During withdrawal of the 60 cm-long guidewire, significant resistance was encountered. A chest X-ray film (Fig. 1) showed relocation of the IVC filter to the internal jugular vein.

Application of Peripheral Blood Lymphocyte Count in Prediction of the Presence of Atypical Lymphocytes

Clinical Laboratory, 2020
Atypical lymphocytes (AL), or reactive lymphocyte, exist in peripheral blood when stimulated by viral infection, drugs, inflammatory signals or allergens. Studies have shown that specific changes in peripheral blood (PB) analysis can predict morphological changes in blood cells.
