Pathology Case Reviews, 2012AbstractPrimary effusion lymphoma (PEL), and its solid counterpart, extracavitary PEL, is a rare, but unique, clinicopathologic entity, which is pathogenetically related to infection with the gamma herpesvirus, Kaposi sarcoma herpesvirus/human herpes virus 8.

Extracavitary Primary Effusion Lymphoma of the Anorectum
Clinical Lymphoma and Myeloma, 2005We report a case of an extracavitary primary effusion lymphoma occurring in the anorectum of a patient with advanced acquired immune deficiency syndrome. The morphology, null cell immunophenotype, and acquisition of plasma cell markers in this case are typical of the so-called solid variant of primary effusion lymphoma. Lymphoma cells in this case were

HIV-Associated Primary Effusion Lymphoma
2016In 1995, Cesarman and colleagues examined the DNA of 193 lymphomas from 42 patients with AIDS to 151 patients who did not have HIV infection. KSHV/HHV-8 DNA sequences were identified in eight lymphomas from HIV-infected patients. All eight, and only these eight, were body-cavity-based lymphomas as characterized by pleural, pericardial, and/or ...
