Modulation of Lactobacillus casei bacteriophage A2 lytic/lysogenic cycles by binding of Gp25 to the early lytic mRNA [PDF]
SummaryThe genetic switch of Lactobacillus casei bacteriophage A2 is regulated by the CI protein, which represses the early lytic promoter PR and Cro that abolishes expression from the lysogenic promoter PL. Lysogens contain equivalent cI and cro‐gp25 mRNA concentrations, i.e., CI only partially represses PR, predicting a lytic cycle dominance. However,

Reversible silencing of cytomegalovirus genomes by type I interferon governs virus latency.
Herpesviruses establish a lifelong latent infection posing the risk for virus reactivation and disease. In cytomegalovirus infection, expression of the major immediate early (IE) genes is a critical checkpoint, driving the lytic replication cycle upon ...

Regulation of alphaherpesvirus infections by the ICP0 family of proteins [PDF]
Immediate-early protein ICP0 of herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) is important for the regulation of lytic and latent viral infection. Like the related proteins expressed by other alphaherpesviruses, ICP0 has a zinc-stabilized RING finger domain that ...

Inhibition of the Epstein–Barr virus lytic cycle by moronic acid
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) expresses two transcription factors, Rta and Zta, during the immediate-early stage of the lytic cycle to activate the transcription of viral lytic genes. Our immunoblotting and flow cytometry analyses find that moronic acid, found in galls of Rhus chinensis and Brazilian propolis, at 10microM inhibits the expression of Rta, Zta,

Transcriptome analysis of bacteriophage communities in periodontal health and disease. [PDF]
BackgroundThe role of viruses as members of the human microbiome has gained broader attention with the discovery that human body surfaces are inhabited by sizeable viral communities.

Biphasic euchromatin-to-heterochromatin transition on the KSHV genome following de novo infection. [PDF]
The establishment of latency is an essential step for the life-long persistent infection and pathogenesis of Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV).

Tuning Reactivity in Cu/TEMPO Catalyzed Alcohol Oxidation Reactions
Novel copper(I) complexes bearing a secondary amine moiety (CuL3) or an additional non‐innocent functionality with intact imine group (Cu2L42) were synthesized and tested towards oxidation reactions. Several intermediates, such as Cu(III)2(bis‐μ‐oxo) and Cu(II)2(bis‐μ‐hydroxo), species were trapped and spectroscopically characterized.

Viral infection leads to heterogeneous cellular outcomes ranging from refractory to abortive and fully productive states. Single cell transcriptomics enables a high resolution view of these distinct post-infection states.
