Advancing Water Security in the Tropical and Subtropical Regions: An Integrative Topic Modeling Approach

open access: yesWorld Water Policy, Volume 12, Issue 1, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Water security in tropical regions faces escalating pressures from climate change, land‐use shifts, and population growth. We conducted a bibliometric review of 1146 peer‐reviewed articles (1964–2023) on tropical water security. Latent Dirichlet Allocation identified 13 thematic topics and their evolution. Publications rose sharply after 2012,

Integrating Urban Expansion and Flood Risk: A Spatial Assessment of Impervious Surface Growth and Floodplain Exposure in Mecklenburg County (2011–2021)

open access: yesWorld Water Policy, Volume 12, Issue 1, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Urban expansion significantly impacts flood risk, particularly in rapidly growing areas where impervious surfaces exacerbate surface runoff. This study examines spatial patterns of urban growth and their effects on flood exposure in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, from 2011 to 2021.

ANTROPOARQUEOLOGÍA EN LA MAGDALENA. EL ESTUDIO DE RESTOS ÓSEOS HUMANOS: CIENCIA TÉCNICA Y MÉTODO ENTRE LA MULTI Y LA TRANSDISCIPLINARIEDAD - ANTROPO ARCHEOLOGY IN LA MAGDALENA. THE STUDY OF HUMAN BONE REMAINS: TECHNICAL SCIENCE AND METHOD BETWEEN MULTIDISCIPLINARITY AND TRANSDISCIPLINARITY

open access: yes, 2017

Identifying Key Biodiversity Areas Based on Distinct Genetic Diversity

open access: yesMolecular Ecology Resources, Volume 26, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) are sites that contribute significantly to the global persistence of biodiversity. Distinct genetic diversity has been introduced as one of the metrics to estimate whether a site holds a threshold proportion of a species' global genetic diversity during the KBA identification process.

Indigenous peoples and local community reports of climate change impacts on biodiversity

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 40, Issue 1, February 2026.
Abstract Climate change impacts on biodiversity have been primarily studied through ecological research methods, largely ignoring other knowledge systems. Indigenous and local knowledge systems include rich observations of changes in biodiversity that can inform climate change adaptation planning and environmental stewardship.

Key drivers of at‐vessel mortality in demersal sharks

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 40, Issue 1, February 2026.
Abstract Chondrichthyans are highly vulnerable to fisheries overexploitation, and postcapture mortality poses a significant threat to most species. Global bycatch mitigation guidelines recommend adopting hierarchical decision‐making approaches tailored to species‐specific vulnerabilities and socioeconomic and regulatory contexts.

Evidence for a fisher‐designed solution to manta and devil ray bycatch in tuna fisheries

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 40, Issue 1, February 2026.
Abstract Bycatch in global tropical tuna purse seine fisheries represents a significant source of mortality for manta and devil rays (mobulids), which are globally threatened. Use of best handling and rapid release practices on purse seine vessels can substantially reduce mortality and improve vulnerability status for mobulids.
