F-theory vacua and α′-corrections

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2020
In this work we analyze F-theory and Type IIB orientifold compactifications to study α′-corrections to the four-dimensional, N $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 1 effective actions.

Orbifolds of M-theory [PDF]

open access: yesNuclear Physics B, 1996
We study Z2-orbifolds of 11-dimensional M-theory on tori of various dimensions. The most interesting model (besides the known S1/Z2 case) corresponds to T5/Z2, for which we argue that the resulting six-dimensional theory is equivalent to the type IIB string compactified on K3.

Membrane solutions in M-theory [PDF]

open access: yesJHEP 0508 (2005) 087, 2005
Motivated by the recent achievements in the framework of the semiclassical limit of the M-theory/field theory correspondence, we propose an approach for obtaining exact membrane solutions in general enough M-theory backgrounds, having field theory dual description.

Orbifolds of M-Theory and Type II String Theories in Two Dimensions [PDF]

open access: yesNucl.Phys.B498:175-194,1997, 1996
We consider several orbifold compactifications of M-theory and their corresponding type II duals in two space-time dimensions. In particular, we show that while the orbifold compactification of M-theory on $T^9/J_9$ is dual to the orbifold compactification of type IIB string theory on $T^8/I_8$, the same orbifold $T^8/I_8$ of type IIA string theory is ...

Five-dimensional non-Lorentzian conformal field theories and their relation to six-dimensions

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2021
We study correlation functions in five-dimensional non-Lorentzian theories with an SU(1, 3) conformal symmetry. Examples of such theories have recently been obtained as Ω-deformed Yang-Mills Lagrangians arising from a null reduction of six-dimensional ...

M-theory and the Birth of the Universe [PDF]

open access: yesActa Physica Polonica B, 2021
In this review article, we first discuss a possible regularization of the big bang curvature singularity of the standard Friedmann cosmology, where the curvature singularity is replaced by a spacetime defect. We then consider the hypothesis that a new physics phase gave rise to this particular spacetime defect.

Thermodynamics of Noncritical M-Theory and the Topological A-Model [PDF]

open access: yesNucl.Phys.B745:1-28,2006, 2005
In hep-th/0508024, noncritical M-theory for two-dimensional Type 0A and 0B strings was defined in terms of a double-scaled theory of nonrelativistic fermions in 2+1 dimensions. Here we study this noncritical M-theory at finite temperature. We derive the exact expression for the free energy of its vacuum solution, as a function of a coupling constant ...
