Using high‐resolution imagery to map Scots pine regeneration in the Scottish uplands

open access: yesEcological Solutions and Evidence, Volume 7, Issue 2, April/June 2026.
This study utilizes high‐resolution imagery to map over 90,000 naturally regenerating Scots pines across a 3360‐ha area in the Scottish Uplands. Our approach demonstrates that remote sensing can accurately quantify landscape‐scale forest expansion, identifying nearly 85% of saplings over 2 m tall.

Yukawa coupling unification in SO(10) with positive \mu\ and a heavier gluino

open access: yes, 2012
The t-b-tau unification with positive Higgs mass parameter \mu\ in the minimal supersymmetric standard model prefers "just so" Higgs splitting and a light gluino < 500 GeV which appears to be ruled out by the recent LHC searches. We reanalyze constraints

Impact of Muon Anomalous Magnetic Moment on Supersymmetric Models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
The recent measurement of a_\mu =\frac{g_\mu -2}{2} by the E821 Collaboration at Brookhaven deviates from the quoted Standard Model (SM) central value prediction by 2.6\sigma. The difference between SM theory and experiment may be easily accounted for in

Synapsids and sensitivity: Broad survey of tetrapod trigeminal canal morphology supports an evolutionary trend of increasing facial tactile specialization in the mammal lineage

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, Volume 309, Issue 4, Page 864-911, April 2026.
Abstract The trigeminus nerve (cranial nerve V) is a large and significant conduit of sensory information from the face to the brain, with its three branches extending over the head to innervate a wide variety of integumentary sensory receptors, primarily tactile.

The Halo Boundary of Galaxy Clusters in the SDSS

open access: yes, 2017
Mass around dark matter halos can be divided into "infalling" material and "collapsed" material that has passed through at least one pericenter. Analytical models and simulations predict a rapid drop in the halo density profile associated with the ...

What Is a Polyolefin? A Critical Overview of Ethylene Copolymers Used as Solar Photovoltaic Module Encapsulants

open access: yesProgress in Photovoltaics: Research and Applications, Volume 34, Issue 4, Page 367-395, April 2026.
Polyolefin encapsulants are gaining dominance in PV modules, yet confusion persists around PO, POE, and TPO definitions. This study clarifies terminology, reviews materials, and properties and proposes a taxonomy to improve understanding, communication, and reliability in solar module manufacturing.

Concrete breakout strength prediction of anchors in Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete based on material test datasets

open access: yesStructural Concrete, Volume 27, Issue 2, Page 2704-2722, April 2026.
Abstract The use of steel fiber‐reinforced concrete (SFRC) has seen a significant rise in the construction industry due to advancements in material science, improved quality, and cost efficiency. Similarly, the importance of fastening systems in construction has grown, necessitating robust research on the performance of fasteners in SFRC to ensure safe

Effects of furosemide on the hearing loss induced by impulse noise

open access: yesJournal of Occupational Medicine and Toxicology, 2011
Background The permanent hearing loss following exposure to intense noise can be due either to mechanical structural damage (tearing) caused directly by the noise or to metabolic (biochemical) damage resulting from the elevated levels of free radicals ...

331 Models Facing the Tensions in $\Delta F=2$ Processes with the Impact on $\varepsilon^\prime/\varepsilon$, $B_s\to\mu^+\mu^-$ and $B\to K^*\mu^+\mu^-$

open access: yes, 2016
Motivated by the recently improved lattice QCD results on the hadronic matrix elements entering $\Delta M_{s,d}$ in $B_{s,d}^0-\bar B_{s,d}^0$ mixings and the resulting increased tensions between $\Delta M_{s,d}$ and $\varepsilon_K$ in the Standard Model

Population and herbarium genomics provide a comprehensive framework for a revision of Microcoleus (Cyanobacteria)

open access: yesJournal of Phycology, Volume 62, Issue 2, Page 454-476, April 2026.
Abstract Microcoleus is a cosmopolitan, filamentous cyanobacterium and a key component of biological soil crusts—complex microbial communities essential for primary production in diverse terrestrial environments. Here, we performed a taxonomic revision of several species of Microcoleus based on a large population genomic dataset.
