M54 + SAGITTARIUS = ω CENTAURI [PDF]

open access: yesAstrophysical Journal Letters, 2010
We derive homogeneous abundances of Fe, O, Na, and α-elements from high-resolution FLAMES spectra for 76 red giant stars in NGC 6715 (M54) and for 25 red giants in the surrounding nucleus of the Sagittarius (Sgr) dwarf galaxy. Our main findings are the following. (1) We confirm that M54 shows intrinsic metallicity dispersion, ~0.19 dex rms.

The Dark Matter Halo of M54

open access: yesAstrophysical Journal, 2022
Abstract M54 is a prototype for a globular cluster embedded in a dark matter halo. Gaia Early Data Release 3 photometry and proper motions separate the old, metal-poor stars from the more metal-rich and younger dwarf galaxy stars. The metal-poor stars dominate the inner 50 pc, with a velocity dispersion profile that declines to a minimum

Internal friction evidence for the carbides-formation in the high Co–Ni martensite steel during heat treatment [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports
The internal friction (IF) behaviors, combined with X-ray diffraction (XRD), dilatometry, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis of the cryogenic treated and tempered M54 steel were systematically investigated.

Offset of M54 from the Sagittarius dwarf spheroidal galaxy

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society
ABSTRACT We present results from simultaneous modelling of 2D (projected along the line of sight) position, proper motion, and line-of-sight velocity for Gaia- and Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment (APOGEE)-observed stars near the centre of the Sagittarius (Sgr) dwarf spheroidal galaxy.
