The surrogate matrix methodology: A reference implementation for low-cost assembly in isogeometric analysis

open access: yesMethodsX, 2020
A reference implementation of a new method in isogeometric analysis (IGA) is presented. It delivers low-cost variable-scale approximations (surrogates) of the matrices which IGA conventionally requires to be computed by element-scale quadrature.

Infant Mortality and Child-Naming: A Genealogical Exploration of American Trends

open access: yesJournal of Public and Professional Sociology, 2010
Parallel with anthropological literature, analysis of genealogical data shows a strong relationship between infant mortality rates and allowing deceased infants to remain unnamed. This was especially true for infants dying shortly after birth. Findings

ABJ(M) and fractional M2's with fractional M2 charge [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2009
Recently Aharony, Bergman and Jafferis (ABJ) have argued that a 3d U(N+M)xU(N) Chern-Simons gauge theory at level (k,-k) may have a vacuum with N=6 supersymmetry only if MM(M-k)-1 with no restriction on the B-field. IIB brane cartoons and 11d supergravity solutions corresponding to N=3 vacua that do not preserve N=6 supersymmetry are argued to ...

N-acetyl cysteine ameliorates aortic fibrosis by promoting M2 macrophage polarization in aging mice

open access: yesRedox Report, 2021
Background: Vascular fibrosis is a universal phenomenon associated with aging, and oxidative stress plays an important role in the genesis of vascular damage in line with the aging process.

Wrapped M2/M5 duality [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2009
A microscopic accounting of the entropy of a generic 5D supersymmetric rotating black hole, arising from wrapped M2-branes in Calabi-Yau compactified M-theory, is an outstanding unsolved problem. In this paper we consider an expansion around the zero-entropy, zero-temperature, maximally rotating ground state for which the angular momentum J_L and ...

Unpacking the provision of the industrial commons in Industry 4.0 cluster

open access: yesEconomics and Business Review, 2019
This paper argues that provision of industrial commons (IC), might be considered as a crucial factor of a cluster’s attractiveness in digital transformation, e.g. in Industry 4.0 (I4.0) time.

INTERPRETING THE M2-BRANE ACTION [PDF]

open access: yesModern Physics Letters A, 2009
The world-volume theory of multiple M2-branes proposed recently has a free scalar field. For large vev of this scalar field the world-volume action reduces to that of multiple D2-branes with Yang–Mills coupling proportional to the vev. We suggest that the correct interpretation of this scalar field is as the radial position of the M2-brane center of ...
