Late Maastrichtian Nannoplankton Provinces

Nature, 1970
IT has been known for some time that there was a sharp differentiation of late Maastrichtian faunal provinces with respect to planktonic foraminifera. Axelrod1 has presented evidence that this was also the case with some terrestrial megaphyta, for he found a rather abrupt southward shift for the coniferous vegetation of the northern hemisphere during ...

Maastrichtian stratigraphy of Antarctica

Cretaceous Research, 2004
Abstract Application of a strontium isotope stratigraphy to the Late Cretaceous sedimentary succession of Antarctica has provided the impetus for a comprehensive stratigraphical revision of the terminal Maastrichtian Stage. Both the base and top of the stage have been defined by strontium isotope dates, and a series of inter-island correlations ...

Maastrichtian silicoflagellates of the great valley, California

Geoscience and Man, 1974
Abstract Fossil silicoflagellates of the genera Corbisema, Cornua, Dictyocha, Lyramula, and Vattacerta are abundant in the Marca Shale Member, Moreno Formation (Maastrichtian). Corbisema is represented by four morphotypes: Corbisema geometrica Hanna, C. geometrica Hanna var. apiculata Jouse, C. trigona (Zit‐tel) Deflandre, and C. triacantha (Ehrenberg)

The biostratigraphy and paleobiogeography of Maastrichtian inoceramids

1996
The global distribution of Maastrichtian inoceramids is now known in enough detail that the patterns of disappearance can be used to place first-order constraints on paleoceanographic changes that may have occurred during that age. The Inoceramidae is an excellent group to focus on in a study of Maastrichtian events for the following reasons: (1) they ...

Maastrichtian Charophyte Gyrogonites from Jamaica

Micropaleontology, 1984
A well-preserved charophyte gyrogonite assemblage consisting of Platychara grambastii, Porochara cf. anluensis, and Porochara oblonga is herein reported from the upper part of the Slippery Rock Formation from the Central Inlier in Jamaica. The assemblage indicates a Maastrichtian age for the upper part of the Slippery Rock Formation.

Astronomical calibration of the Maastrichtian (Late Cretaceous)

Earth and Planetary Science Letters, 2011
Abstract Recent improvements to astronomical modeling of the Solar System have contributed to important refinements of the Cenozoic time scale through astronomical calibration of sedimentary series. We extend this astronomical calibration into the Cretaceous, on the base of the 405 ka orbital eccentricity variation thanks to the recovery of well ...

Maastrichtian plesiosaurs from northern Patagonia

Cretaceous Research, 2003
Three relatively complete elasmosaurid plesiosaurs were recently recovered from the north of Patagonia, Argentina. They were found in the uppermost levels of the Jaguel Formation (upper Maastrichtian). One of the specimens was found only 0.3 m below the Cretaceous/Paleogene boundary, this being the youngest record of a Mesozoic reptile in Patagonia ...

A review of Maastrichtian ammonite ranges

1990
Although Maastrichtian ammonite diversity was lower than that of the Campanian Age, the purported long-term diversity reduction of ammonites near the end of the Cretaceous may be more a product of sea-level change than evidence of a long-term slide toward extinction in this group.

Towards an orbitally-tuned Maastrichtian Stage

After the peak warmth’s of mid-Cretaceous times, progressive climate cooling occurred during the late Cretaceous, with a global temperature decline in the order of Cenozoic cooling without signs of major and persistent glaciation. Thereby, the Maastrichtian marks a cool greenhouse period with different non-analog boundary conditions in comparison to ...
