Microglial reactivity and nodule formation are associated with Synaptodendritic damage in the brains of people with HIV‐1

open access: yesBrain Pathology, Volume 36, Issue 3, May 2026.
Despite effective ART, neurocognitive impairment persists in people with HIV. Brains from PWH present exacerbated microgliosis and formation of microglial nodules that are actively engaged in neuronal phagocytosis, resulting in neuronal injury and dendritic loss.

Bruton tyrosine kinase (Btk) in neutrophils is indispensable for initiating and maintaining skin inflammation in a model of pemphigoid diseases

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 183, Issue 10, Page 2446-2463, May 2026.
Background and Purpose Bruton tyrosine kinase (Btk) is essential for B cell function. Its role in myeloid cells is less understood. Greater insights into Btk significance in myeloid cells are needed to evaluate its potential as a therapeutic target during the effector phase of antibody‐induced autoimmune diseases, where inhibiting autoantibody ...

β3‐adrenoceptor agonism exerts lung protection in a rat model of bronchopulmonary dysplasia

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 183, Issue 10, Page 2497-2517, May 2026.
The β3‐adrenoceptors agonist BRL37344 promotes lung maturation, preventing the progression of experimental bronchopulmonary dysplasia. Absract Background and Purpose Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) affects premature newborns, particularly those receiving supplemental oxygen therapy.

TGF‐β Inhibitor Potentiates Osimertinib‐Induced Anti‐Tumor Immunity in Egfr‐Mutant Lung Cancer

open access: yesCancer Science, Volume 117, Issue 5, Page 1260-1272, May 2026.
Osimertinib enhances CD8+ T cell activity but also upregulates immunosuppressive TGF‐β in Egfr‐mutant lung tumors. This study demonstrates that TGF‐β inhibition with nintedanib or vactosertib potentiates osimertinib‐induced CD8+ T cell–mediated immunity and reduce CD206+ macrophages. These findings provide a strong rationale for novel immunotherapeutic

Making Accurate Judgements in Child Welfare: Comparing ChatGPT With Qualified Social Workers

open access: yesChild &Family Social Work, Volume 31, Issue 2, Page 703-712, May 2026.
ABSTRACT This study compares the judgemental accuracy of child and family social workers (n = 581) with ChatGPT, a generative AI model. Using 12 anonymized referrals, participants were asked predictive questions to evaluate accuracy through Brier scores. ChatGPT outperformed the average social worker on 11 of the 12 referrals, though the difference was

Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription (STAT) Proteins Regulate Mucosal‐Associated Invariant T (MAIT) Cell Function

open access: yesImmunology, Volume 178, Issue 1, Page 97-108, May 2026.
Integrated transcriptomic, proteomic and flow cytometry analyses reveal that STAT1 negatively regulates MAIT cell effector and glycolytic functions, while STAT3, STAT5 and HIF1α act as positive modulators. Targeting these pathways may offer new strategies to restore MAIT cell function in immune dysregulation and cancer.
