dUTPase is essential in zebrafish development and possesses several single‐nucleotide variants with pronounced structural and functional consequences

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
dUTPases are involved in balancing the appropriate nucleotide pools. We showed that dUTPase is essential for normal development in zebrafish. The different zebrafish genomes contain several single‐nucleotide variations (SNPs) of the dut gene. One of the dUTPase variants displayed drastically lower protein stability and catalytic efficiency as compared ...

Effect of Reinforcement Content and Cutting Parameters on Tool Wear in Machining of Aluminum Hybrid Composites [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Metallurgy and Materials
The machinability of aluminum hybrid composites (AHCs) can be enhanced by utilization of optimum composition and cutting parameters. In this study, the machinability of AHCs containing micron-sized TiB2 and B4C particles was investigated using the face ...

Enzymatic degradation of biopolymers in amorphous and molten states: mechanisms and applications

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This review explains how polymer morphology and thermal state shape enzymatic degradation pathways, comparing amorphous and molten biopolymer structures. By integrating structure–reactivity principles with insights from thermodynamics and enzyme engineering, it highlights mechanisms that enable efficient polymer breakdown.

Ruin Machine

open access: yes, 2013
The contemporary ruin today — in all its incarnations (from the aban-doned auto factories in Michigan to the World Trade Centers’ foot-print in NYC, Saddam Hussein’s elegant compounds in Baghdad that have since been converted into temporary barracks for the U.S. military — or from the vacant half-constructed towers in Dubai to the one billion squatters

Differential regulation of ZFAS1 splice variants by endoplasmic reticulum stress in hepatocyte cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ZFAS1 is a lncRNA promoting cell proliferation and migration, exhibiting high expression in various cancers. It is conserved, widely expressed, and produces multiple splice variants with unclear roles. We identified several splice variants in hepatocyte models, and found that inhibiting or suppressing regulators of the unfolded protein response (PERK ...

PARP inhibitors induce a senescence phenotype in non‐small cell lung carcinoma cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Talazoparib is the most potent inducer of senescence among different PARP1 inhibitors in human NSCLC cells. In the absence of PARP, no senescence phenotype was observed, demonstrating that PARP1 is necessary for the induction of senescence by this inhibitor.

The machinability of nickel-based alloys in high-pressure jet assisted (HPJA) turning

open access: yesMetalurgija, 2013
Due to their mechanical, thermal and chemical properties, nickel-based alloys are generally included among materials that are hard to machine. An experimental study has been performed to investigate the capabilities of conventional and high-pressure jet ...

Determination of effective stress-effective strain relationship for use as a machinability index [PDF]

open access: yes, 1964
In recent work it has been shown that the effective stress effective strain relationship of a work material is important in determining the shear angle in orthogonal cutting.
