The Power of Machines That Control Experiments

International Journal of Foundations of Computer Science, 2022
We consider the experimenter (e.g. the experimental physicist) as a Turing machine — the digital component — and the experiment of measurement — the analog component — as an oracle to the Turing machine. The algorithm running in the machine abstracts the experimental method of measurement (encoding the recursive structure of experimental actions ...

Cellular-based machine-to-machine: overload control

IEEE Network, 2012
One of the most important problems posed by cellular-based machine type communications is congestion. Congestion concerns all the parts of the network, both the radio and the core network impacting both the user data plane and the control plane. In this article, we address the problem of congestion in machine type communications.

The man/machine control interface—Pursuit control

Automatica, 1979
Man/machine control interface descriptions are complicated by the versatility of the human controller as an information processing device. System input interface characteristics can lead to control behavior ranging from open-loop (precognitive), through combination open-loop, closed-loop (pursuit), to closed-loop (compensatory) control structures.

On the control of asynchronous machines with races

IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, 2003
The problem of eliminating the effects of critical races on asynchronous machines is considered in a control theoretic context. State feedback controllers that eliminate the effects of critical races are developed. The results include necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of such controllers and algorithms for their design.

Optimal Control with Boltzmann Machines

2008 Fourth International Conference on Natural Computation, 2008
This paper develops a LQ dynamic optimization control method for time-variant, discrete-time, multivariable system based on Boltzmann machines. By building the equivalent relation between the LQ performance index and the energy function of Boltzmann machines, the Boltzmann machine can be constructed and its parameters will be calculated.

DYNAMICS AND CONTROL OF PAPER MACHINE

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1985
Abstract A dynamic model of a saper machine is built by the mechanismic analysis and some mathematical treatments, and a new frequency response approach to multivariable control system design is developped by optimization technique and applied to the design of a basis weight and moisture content control system.

On Error Control in Sequential Machines

IEEE Transactions on Computers, 1972
It is shown that if a machine M con be mapped into a simpler machine M' by a homomorphism, then an error correcting/detecting code can be applied to the states of M such that the parity check bits are generated independently of the information bits that form the state assignment of M.

Design of supervisory machine control

2003 European Control Conference (ECC), 2003
This paper presents a basis for a framework for the design of supervisory machine control. Machine behaviour is described using the task resource system (TRS) paradigm. Analysis is performed to classify system descriptions leaving room for control choices up to a certain extent: selected untimed TRS, instantiated unselected TRS and TRS constraints.

Machine control software design

Proceedings. 1986 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 1986
Experience suggests that hierarchical control is a superior architecture for machine control software, though no single design is suited for all applications. For cases involving complex sequencing, a state-machine is a power design and analysis tool.
