Role of Machine Perfusion in Liver Transplantation

Surgical Clinics of North America
Given the current severe shortage of available livers for transplantation, there is an urgent need to maximize the utilization of donor organs. One of the strategies to increase the number of available livers for transplantation is to improve organ utilization through the use of elderly, overweight, or organs donated after circulatory death.

Oxygenated Machine Perfusion Preservation of Predamaged Kidneys With HTK and Belzer Machine Perfusion Solution: An Experimental Study in Pigs

Transplantation Proceedings, 2005
The objective of the present study was to evaluate the recently proposed aerobic machine preservation with the noncolloidal HTK solution by comparison with the colloidal Belzer machine perfusion solution (MPS) after procurement of marginal kidneys from non-heart-beating donors.

Angiographic evaluation of machine perfused kidneys

Urological Research, 1975
An intact and patent renal vascular system is a prerequisite for even and complete perfusion during machine preservation and the reestablishment of renal blood flow after transplantation. Most of the so called "viability tests" for machine perfused kidneys refer to the cellular viability, not taking into account possible lesions of the vascular system.

Liver retransplantation in the era of machine perfusion

Liver Transplantation
To compare perioperative and long-term graft and patient survival of liver retransplantation using static cold storage (SCS) and machine perfusion. We queried the UNOS database from 2018 to 2024 to analyze patients undergoing adult liver retransplantation alone. Logistic regression analyses were conducted for early graft loss (EGL),
