Thermal error analysis and error prediction modeling on a machine tool

2008 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management, 2008
Thermal errors are the largest contributor to the dimensional errors of a workpiece in precision machining. It is very significant to study how to accurately simulate the spindle thermal errors. In this paper a novel concept of thermal error modes analysis is proposed to develop a better understanding of the thermal deformation on a machine tool.

Machine-Tool Error Observer Design With Application to Thermal Error Tracking

Journal of Manufacturing Science and Engineering, 2018
AbstractA parameter identification procedure for identifying the parameters of a volumetric error model of a large machine tool requires hundreds of random volumetric error components in its workspace and thus takes hours of measurement time. It causes thermal errors of a large machine difficult to be tracked and compensated periodically.

A review on spindle thermal error compensation in machine tools

International Journal of Machine Tools and Manufacture, 2015
Abstract Thermal error caused by the thermal deformation is one of the most significant factors influencing the accuracy of the machine tool. Among all the heat sources which lead to the thermal distortions, the spindle is the main one. This paper presents an overview of the research about the compensation of the spindle thermal error.

Machining-Based Thermal Error Analysis of CFRP-Structured Machine Tool

SSRN Electronic Journal, 2020
New structural materials, such as carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), are used in modern machine tools for energy efficiency improvement by weight reduction. Furthermore, CFRP can manipulate thermal expansion with the fiber orientation, and this is expected to reduce thermal errors.

Variable Parameters Model of Machine Tool Thermal Error

2011 Third International Conference on Measuring Technology and Mechatronics Automation, 2011
Due to the ambiguous influencing factors on thermal error and difficulties in determining temperature measuring points, an on-line grey GM(1,1) prediction model with variable parameters is advanced. By virtue of modeling on thermal error with single sequence, the method has no necessity to consider thermal error extraneous affecting factors.
