Support Vector Machines Model for Classification of Thermal Error in Machine Tools

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2002
This paper addresses a change in the concept of machine tool thermal error prediction which has been hitherto carried out by directly mapping them with the temperature of critical elements on the machine. The model developed herein using support vector machines, a powerful data-training algorithm, seeks to account for the impact of specific operating ...

Assessing Thermally Induced Errors of Machine Tools by 3D Length Measurements

CIRP Annals, 2003
A new measurement technique is proposed for the assessment of thermally induced errors of machine tools. The basic idea is to measure changes of length by a telescopic double ball bar (TDEB) at multiple locations in the machine's workspace while the machine is thermally excited.

An Ensemble Modeling for Thermal Error of CNC Machine Tools

2018
Thermal error caused by the thermal deformation of computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools is one of the main factors to affect the machining accuracy. With monitoring data of the temperature field, establishing data-driven thermal error model is considered as a more convenient, effective and cost-efficient way to reduce the thermal error.

Thermal error modeling of multisource information fusion in machine tools

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2015
Thermal deformation is one of the principal factors that influence the machining accuracy of machine tools, and it can be improved by thermal error compensation. This paper presents a method of thermal error modeling using multisource information fusion, which can further improve the thermal error compensation accuracy.

A study of pre-compensation for thermal errors of NC machine tools

International Journal of Machine Tools and Manufacture, 1997
Thermally-induced errors are major contributors to the overall accuracy of machine tools. In this paper, an error pre-compensation system is developed to correct the thermal errors of the spindle and lead screws. A simple gauge 1-D ball array is used to accelerate and simplify the error measurement.
