A sixteen-membered diacetylenic β-hydroxy lactone was synthesized by the oxidative intramolecular condensation of acetylenes, and by its reduction the corresponding dienic and saturated β-hydroxy lactones were prepared.

Acute Human Toxicity of Macrocyclic Lactones
Current Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, 2012Macrocyclic lactones, including avermectins and milbemycins, are novel parasiticides and insecticides that are produced through fermentation by soil-dwelling microorganisms. Although various macrocyclic lactones may differ in their potency and safety, all of them are believed to share common pharmacologic/toxicologic mechanisms, i.e.

Pharmacokinetic Features of the Antiparasitic Macrocyclic Lactones
Current Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, 2012The macrocyclic lactones have pharmacokinetic properties which enhance their use against endo- and ectoparasites in animals and man. The most consistent physico-chemical feature of the group which contributes to their kinetic characteristics is high lipid solubility.

Macrocyclic Lactones for Parasite Control in Equids
Current Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, 2012Macrocyclic lactones (MLs) revolutionized parasite control in horses and other animals. They are unique in that they are effective against arthropods and nematodes. The first of the widely used avermectins was ivermectin. In 1983, it was marketed for use in horses as an injectable formulation but was withdrawn in 1984 after about a year and half on the

Syntheses and bioactivities of macrocyclic paclitaxel bis-lactones
Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry, 2004Five macrocyclic paclitaxel bis-lactones and their corresponding open chain taxoids were synthesized as models of the tubulin-binding conformation of paclitaxel. Macrocyclic lactones with a 19-21-membered ring underwent isomerization to form smaller rings. The lactones were evaluated for cytotoxicity and tubulin-polymerization ability.

Decarboxylative Photocyclization: Synthesis of Benzopyrrolizidines and Macrocyclic Lactones
The Journal of Organic Chemistry, 1999The benzopyrrolizidines 2, 6a, and 6b were synthesized from the enantiomerically pure γ-amino acid derivatives 1, 5a, and 5b by decarboxylative photocyclization of the corresponding potassium salts in aqueous acetone. The diastereoselectivity of the radical coupling step was low (dr = 60:40) for the N-phthaloylglutamic acid methyl ester 1, whereas the ...

Re: Macrocyclic lactone resistance in sheep
New Zealand Veterinary Journal, 2001Abstract Extract Leathwick and Sutherland (2001) endorse the concept raised in my letter (Murphy, 2001) that the use of some macrocyclic lactones could delay the onset of anthelmintic resistance to the action group when compared with other members of the group, but claim that I failed to adequately address 2 important issues: a) that I failed to apply ...

Crown Esters and Macrocyclic Polyether Lactones
1982In 1930, in one of many pioneering studies, Carothers showed that certain condensation polymers could be cyclic or macrocyclic rather than exclusively linear21. In addition to this very important observation, he showed that thermolysis in vacuo of certain polymers could also yield macrocyclic materials.
