Cultivation of Macrocystis integrifolia (Laminariales, Phaeophyta) in southeastern Alaskan waters
Hydrobiologia, 1990The artificial culture of Macrocystis integrifolia in southeastern Alaskan waters has been initiated as a first step in a project to augment the existing herring roe-on-kelp fishery in the state. The growing of Macrocystis in Prince William Sound has the potential of considerably enhancing this fishery by eliminating the costly importation of this kelp

Isolation and characterization of the chloroplast DNA of Macrocystis integrifolia
Hydrobiologia, 1984Extensive nucleotide sequence diversity has been demonstrated in the mitochondrial DNA of rodents and other animals (Lansman et al. 1981). Such data have provided information concerning the phylogenetic relatedness of conspecific populations. We wanted to apply a similar analysis to the chloroplast DNA (ctDNA) of the kelps.

Seasonal nitrate physiology of Macrocystis integrifolia Bory
Journal of Experimental Marine Biology and Ecology, 1984Abstract Ambient sea-water nitrate and tissue nitrogen (ethanol soluble nitrate and amino acids, as well as total nitrogen) of Macrocystis integrifolia Bory were monitored over a 2-yr period in Bamfield, Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Sea-water nitrate varied from a high of 12 μmol · 1 −1 (individual values as high as 23 μmol · 1 −1 were ...

Effects of kelp (Macrocystis integrifolia) on soil chemical properties and crop response
Plant and Soil, 1988In 1981 a two-year field plot experiment was established to assess the effects of quantities (0, 7.5, 15, 30, 60 and 120 t ha−1) of fresh kelp (Macrocystis integrifolia) on crop growth and nutritional response and chemical properties of a fine-textured soil. Soil was analyzed for NO3−N, NH4−N, electrical conductivity, pH, Cl and exchangeable cations (K,

Diurnal exudation of 14C-labelled compounds by the large kelp Macrocystis integrifolia Bory
Journal of Experimental Marine Biology and Ecology, 1977Abstract 14 C-labelled exudation products released by immature blades of the large kelp Macrocystis integrifolia Bory were sampled in situ at 2-hourly intervals for periods of from 24 to 48 h. Dissolved organic carbon (DOC) equal to 0.002 % of the blade primary productivity was released by the kelp under natural conditions.

The integrated productivity of a Macrocystis integrifolia plant
Canadian Journal of Botany, 1984The relative contributions of various plant parts to the integrated productivity of Macrocystis integrifolia Bory were determined by extrapolating the net photosynthetic capacity of each part, as observed in vitro, to its proportional contribution to the biomass of a M. integrifolia kelp bed.

SEASONAL PHOTOSYNTHETIC PERFORMANCE OF MACROCYSTIS INTEGRIFOLIA (PHAEOPHYCEAE)1
Journal of Phycology, 1983ABSTRACTThe seasonal photosynthetic performances of three age classes of blades of Macrocystis integrifolia Bory were estimated by studying their photosynthetic rate vs. irradiance curves and pigment contents for 15 months. All blade types were irradiance‐saturated between 25 and 70 μE · m−2· S−1.

Gametophytic development and fertilization in Macrocystis integrifolia
Canadian Journal of Botany, 1968A cytological investigation of gametophytic development and fertilization was conducted on cultured gametophytes of Macrocystis integrifolia. Most developmental characteristics are similar to those previously reported for other members of the order Laminariales, although some modifications were noted in the production of antheridia and spermatozoids ...
