THE PHYSIOLOGICAL MACROCYTOSIS OF PREGNANCY
BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, 1977SummarySixty‐four healthy women were followed during normal pregnancies in which they took supplements of iron or iron+folate or an inactive placebo. The red cell size increased in those patients receiving iron alone or iron+folate. The group on the inactive placebo who received no supplemental iron had red cells of constant size and a falling serum ...

Macrocytosis Associated with Anticonvulsant Therapy
Epilepsia, 1970SUMMARYMacrocytosis in the absence of anaemia has been demonstrated in mentally retarded epileptic patients treated with long‐term anticonvulsant therapy. In patients treated with phenobarbitone, the degree of macrocytosis of the red cells appears to be dose‐related. The significance of these findings in relation to folate absorption, folate metabolism,

To the Editor.— We would like to report the findings of macrocytic changes occurring in the blood of six patients being treated for psoriasis with hydroxyurea. All six patients were in reasonably good health except for severe psoriasis. All patients except one had at least a temporary therapeutic response to hydroxyurea.

Down's syndrome, dementia and macrocytosis
Irish Journal of Psychological Medicine, 2002AbstractObjective: No definitive peripheral biological marker has yet been found to correlate with Alzheimer's disease (AD). This study investigated the role of macrocytosis as a marker which could significantly improve our understanding of AD in the Down's syndrome (DS) population. Methods: This study investigated the possible association between ...

Veterinary Clinical Pathology, 2017AbstractA 10‐year‐old, male neutered Shetland Sheepdog was presented to the University of Florida for evaluation of a well‐granulated mast cell tumor. Hydroxyurea therapy was instituted and serial CBCs showed persistent mild anemia and macrocytosis without a corresponding increase in polychromasia.

Macrocytosis Associated with Divalproex Treatment
Journal of Child and Adolescent Psychopharmacology, 2005Divalproex (DVP) is increasingly prescribed to children and adolescents in psychiatric practices. Among the hematologic adverse effects of DVP, decreased platelet count is well described in the medical literature. However, to date, few studies describe the occurrence of macrocytosis as an adverse effect of divalproex.

The Clinical Significance of Macrocytosis
Acta Medica Scandinavica, 1981ABSTRACT. The cause of macrocytosis (mean corpuscular volume (MCV) ≥105 fl) was investigated over a period of 16 months in the 70 known cases of ± 4000 patients seen by the Department of Internal Medicine. By means of simple laboratory investigations the cause of elevated MCV was found in more than 90% of the cases.
