BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, 1977
SummarySixty‐four healthy women were followed during normal pregnancies in which they took supplements of iron or iron+folate or an inactive placebo. The red cell size increased in those patients receiving iron alone or iron+folate. Macrocytosis Associated with Anticonvulsant Therapy

Epilepsia, 1970
SUMMARYMacrocytosis in the absence of anaemia has been demonstrated in mentally retarded epileptic patients treated with long‐term anticonvulsant therapy. In patients treated with phenobarbitone, the degree of macrocytosis of the red cells appears to be dose‐related. The significance of these findings in relation to folate absorption, folate metabolism,

HYDROXYUREA AND MACROCYTOSIS

Archives of Dermatology, 1971

Macrocytosis Associated with Divalproex Treatment

Journal of Child and Adolescent Psychopharmacology, 2005
Divalproex (DVP) is increasingly prescribed to children and adolescents in psychiatric practices. Among the hematologic adverse effects of DVP, decreased platelet count is well described in the medical literature. However, to date, few studies describe the occurrence of macrocytosis as an adverse effect of divalproex.

The Clinical Significance of Macrocytosis

Acta Medica Scandinavica, 1981
ABSTRACT. The cause of macrocytosis (mean corpuscular volume (MCV) ≥105 fl) was investigated over a period of 16 months in the 70 known cases of ± 4000 patients seen by the Department of Internal Medicine. By means of simple laboratory investigations the cause of elevated MCV was found in more than 90% of the cases.
