MACROMOLECULAR STRUCTURES OF HUMIC SUBSTANCES

Soil Science, 1980
ABSTRACTWe investigated humic substances by surface pressure and viscosity measurements at different pHs and neutral salt concentrations to elucidate their macromolecular configurations. We observed that such configurations were not unique; they varied with the changes in the medium.

Macromolecular material (humic substance) in the water column and sediments

open access: closedMarine Chemistry, 1992
Abstract The progress during the past 10–15 years in the studies of organic macromolecules (humic substances, HS) in seawater and sediments is reviewed. The review describes the advances in the characterization of seawater and sedimentary HS, HS formation models, studies on the geochemical role of marine HS, and future research needs.

Synthesis of Macromolecular Substances by Condensation Polymerization and Stepwise Addition Polymerization

open access: closed, 2001
Condensation polymerizations (polycondensations) are stepwise reactions between bifunctional or polyfunctional components, with elimination of simple molecules such as water or alcohol and the formation of macromolecular substances. For the preparation of linear condensation polymers from bifunctional compounds (the same considerations apply to ...

Characterization of Water-Soluble Macromolecular Substances in Cloud Water

open access: closedJournal of Atmospheric Chemistry, 2004
In this contribution we present to our knowledge the first investigations of macromolecular, often called humic-like substances (HULIS) in cloud water samples and compare them with water-soluble extracts from atmospheric PM2.5, soils and waters to study its possible origin.

Macromolecular drugs acting as precursors of non-macromolecular active substances — Preliminary considerations

Pharmacological Research Communications, 1975
Summary Some principles at the basis of the potential interest of macromolecular drugs are defined. The main lines of a research on purposely tailored synthetic high polymers acting as precursors of non-macromolecular active substances are given. The chemical aspects of proper design of these polymers are discussed in detail.

Imaging of Humic Substance Macromolecular Structures in Water and Soils

Science, 1999
Humic substances (HSs) are the natural organic polyelectrolytes formed from the biochemical weathering of plant and animal remains. Their macromolecular structure and chemistry determine their role in biogeochemical processes. In situ spectromicroscopic evidence showed that the HS macromolecular structures (size and shape) vary as a function of HS ...

Chapter 49 Macromolecular substances and plastics

1975
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses macromolecular substances and plastics. In industry, gel permeation chromatography (GPC) serves as a method for characterizing and analyzing new polymeric products and for controlling the quality of standard products (Harmon).

AGGREGATION PATTERNS AND MACROMOLECULAR MORPHOLOGY OF HUMIC SUBSTANCES: A FRACTAL APPROACH

open access: closedSoil Science, 1999
Fractal geometry provides a powerful means for the quantitative description of heterogeneous and highly irregular systems encountered in nature. Humic substances represent a typical class of natural compounds that may be amenable to a fractal description because of their well known physical and chemical heterogeneity and molecular complexity.
