Regulation of Macropinocytosis by Diacylglycerol Kinase ζ

open access: yesPLOS ONE, 2015
Macropinosomes arise from the closure of plasma membrane ruffles to bring about the non-selective uptake of nutrients and solutes into cells. The morphological changes underlying ruffle formation and macropinosome biogenesis are driven by actin cytoskeleton rearrangements under the control of the Rho GTPase Rac1.

The Emerging Role of Microbial Extracellular Vesicles in Neuroinflammation and Neurodegeneration

open access: yesMedicine Bulletin, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders are increasingly viewed as systemic conditions shaped by interactions among peripheral immunity, microbiota, and the central nervous system. However, the mechanisms linking microbial activity to neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration remain poorly defined.

Macropinocytosis enhances foamy macrophage formation and cholesterol crystallization to activate NLRP3 inflammasome after spinal cord injury

open access: yesRedox Biology
After spinal cord injury (SCI), phagocytes endocytose myelin debris to form foam cells, exacerbating the inflammatory response. It has been previously shown that macrophages become foam cells through the phagocytosis of myelin debris via receptor ...

TRPML1 Promotes Protein Homeostasis in Melanoma Cells by Negatively Regulating MAPK and mTORC1 Signaling

open access: yesCell Reports, 2019
Summary: We screen ion channels and transporters throughout the genome to identify those required by human melanoma cells but not by normal human melanocytes.

Perampanel Blocks Transsynaptic α‐Synuclein Propagation and Neurodegeneration in a Mouse Model of Lewy Body Disease

open access: yesMovement Disorders, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Transsynaptic α‐synuclein propagation plays a crucial role in the progression of Lewy body disease. We previously demonstrated that an α‐amino‐3‐hydroxy‐5‐methyl‐4‐isoxazolepropionic acid receptor antagonist, perampanel, blocks neuronal uptake of α‐synuclein preformed fibrils (PFFs) in an activity‐dependent manner.

Protein aggregates stimulate macropinocytosis facilitating their propagation [PDF]

open access: yesPrion, 2016
Temporal and spatial patterns of pathological changes such as loss of neurons and presence of pathological protein aggregates are characteristic of neurodegenerative diseases such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, Frontotemporal Dementia, Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease.

Development of a Novel Polyleucine‐Based Immunopotentiator for Subunit Vaccines Against Group A Streptococcus

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Self‐assembling amphiphilic peptide L15K6 is used as a novel immunoadjuvant for the development of a Group A Streptococcus vaccine. Robust antigen‐specific IgG responses are generated and manage to kill isolated strains of Group A Streptococcus. Cellular and bulk RNA sequencing data reveals that L15K6 regulates immune responses potentially through TLR ...

Macrophage Phenotype–Dependent Protein Corona Formation Governs Ligand Accessibility and Immune Clearance of Biomimetic Nanoparticles

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Macrophage phenotype dictates protein corona composition and immune clearance of biomimetic nanoparticles. M0‐derived membranes minimize opsonin adsorption and complement activation, enabling superior immune evasion and prolonged circulation, thereby providing mechanistic insights for designing long‐circulating nanocarriers.

Progesterone receptor potentiates macropinocytosis through CDC42 in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

open access: yesOncogenesis
Endocrine receptors play an essential role in tumor metabolic reprogramming and represent a promising therapeutic avenue in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). PDAC is characterized by a nutrient-deprived microenvironment.

Deciphering diverse cell‐death patterns to predict the prognosis and potential therapy target of hepatocellular carcinoma patients

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
Abstract Ninety percent of all primary liver malignancies are hepatocellular carcinomas (HCC), making liver cancer the third most common cause of cancer‐associated mortality. Different patterns of programmed cell death (PCD) are crucial for the survival of tumors, and they might serve as a prognostic marker for HCC.
