Non-apoptotic cell death associated with perturbations of macropinocytosis

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2015
Although macropinocytosis is widely recognized as a distinct form of fluid-phase endocytosis in antigen-presenting dendritic cells, it also occurs constitutively in many other normal and transformed cell types.

Newly identified properties of known pharmaceuticals and myxobacterial small molecules revealed by screening for autophagy modulators

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Autophagy is a cellular degradation process involved in, for example, immune responses to pathogens and neurodegeneration. To identify modulators of autophagy, we developed a microscopy‐based screening assay and identified previously unknown autophagy‐modulating activities in known drugs and natural products from myxobacteria and fungi.

Interaction of c-Cbl with myosin IIA regulates Bleb associated macropinocytosis of Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus.

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2010
KSHV is etiologically associated with Kaposi's sarcoma (KS), an angioproliferative endothelial cell malignancy. Macropinocytosis is the predominant mode of in vitro entry of KSHV into its natural target cells, human dermal microvascular endothelial ...

Histiocytes: Multifaceted Regulators of Health and Disease

open access: yesVeterinary Clinical Pathology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The mononuclear phagocyte system encompasses macrophages, dendritic cells (DCs), and monocytes. Tissue‐resident macrophages and dendritic cells arise during embryogenesis and are replenished either through self‐renewal or by monocytes during inflammation.

Proton pump inhibitors enhance macropinocytosis‐mediated extracellular vesicle endocytosis by inducing membrane v‐ATPase assembly

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles
Besides participating in diverse pathological and physiological processes, extracellular vesicles (EVs) are also excellent drug‐delivery vehicles. However, clinical drugs modulating EV levels are still lacking.

SARS-CoV-2 Spike Protein Stimulates Macropinocytosis in Murine and Human Macrophages via PKC-NADPH Oxidase Signaling

open access: yesAntioxidants
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). While recent studies have demonstrated that SARS-CoV-2 may enter kidney and colon epithelial cells by inducing receptor ...

Mechanistic studies of anticancer aptamer AS1411 reveal a novel role for nucleolin in regulating Rac1 activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, 2015
AS1411 is a G‐rich quadruplex‐forming oligodeoxynucleotide that binds specifically to nucleolin, a protein found on the surface and in the cytoplasm of most malignant cells but absent from the surface/cytoplasm of most normal cells.

High‐Throughput In Vivo Subcellular Analysis of Gold Nanoparticles for Tumor Mitochondrial Targeting

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 16, 17 March 2026.
A DNA barcoding system enables high‐throughput in vivo screening of mitochondrial‐targeting gold nanoparticles. Thirty nanoparticle types with varied shapes, sizes, and ligands are individually barcoded and pooled. The pooled library is administered to tumor‐bearing mice, and barcodes retrieved from tumor mitochondria are amplified and sequenced to ...
