Occurrence of macroprolactinemia in schizophrenia patients treated with risperidone or amisulpride

Asia-Pacific Psychiatry, 2021
AbstractObjectiveTo investigate macroprolactinemia caused by antipsychotics and its clinical significance.MethodsA total of 133 patients with schizophrenia were selected, all of whom were treated with either risperidone or amisulpride alone. The levels of total prolactin (T‐PRL) and macroprolactin (MPRL) were measured before treatment as well as the ...

Long-term assessment of patients with macroprolactinemia

Fertility and Sterility, 1988
Three patients presenting with hyperprolactinemia associated with normal menses, retained fertility, and minimal lactation were followed for a period of 5 to 7 years. All had associated thyroid autoimmune disorders (one with chronic thyroiditis and two with Graves' disease).

Macroprolactinemia presenting like a pituitary tumor

The American Journal of Medicine, 1985
A serum prolactin level greater than 200 ng/ml is almost pathognomonic of a pituitary tumor in a nonpregnant woman. A patient with a three-year history of documented serum prolactin levels of 350 to 400 ng/ml and no evidence of a pituitary adenoma on computed axial tomographic scanning was recently studied.

Macroprolactinemia as the cause of elevated serum prolactin in men

The American Journal of Medicine, 1989
Arecently described cause of hyperprolactinemia is production of a circulating prolactin species with chemical and biologic properties different from native prolactin (macroprolactin) [l-7]. Patients with macroprolactin have been described as females, with regular menstrual periods, preserved fertility, and absence of pituitary abnormalities on ...

On the nature of serum prolactin in two patients with macroprolactinemia

Fertility and Sterility, 1992
To further characterize the high molecular weight (MW) forms of prolactin (PRL) present in patients with macroprolactinemia.Case reports with laboratory investigations.Academic medical centers. Two patients with macroprolactinemia.Measurements of PRL concentrations before and after chromatographic separations. The majority of serum PRL had an estimated ...

Macroprolactinemia in Patients with Prolactinomas: Prevalence and Clinical Significance

Experimental and Clinical Endocrinology & Diabetes, 2013
Data on the prevalence of macroprolactinemia in patients with prolactinomas is quite limited as the presence of high-molecular prolactin forms is suspected mainly in subjects with mild hyperprolactinemia and negative pituitary imaging. The main objective of this observational case-control study was to assess the prevalence and clinical significance of ...

[An immunologic etiology for hyperprolactinemia: macroprolactinemia].

Revue medicale de Liege, 1999
Besides classical etiologies of hyperprolactinaemia (pregnancy, pharmacological treatments, pituitary or hypothalamic perturbations), another less known cause may explain a spectacular idiopathic elevation of plasma concentrations of prolactin hormone.

IgA-type macroprolactin among 130 patients with macroprolactinemia

Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (CCLM)
Abstract Objectives Macroprolactin (macro-PRL) mostly comprises a complex of PRL with IgG. The aim of this study was to clarify whether IgA-type macro-PRL exists and, if so, to elucidate the prevalence of and differences in laboratory data from IgG-type.
