Assessment of macroprolactinemia inpatients with prolactinoma
Abstract Purpose Macroprolactin, the high-molecular mass prolactin isoform, is considered to be an inactive product with extrapituitary origin. Although macroprolactinemia is considered a benign condition, there is evidence of overlapping clinical features among patients with hyperprolactinemia.

Alternative methods for the diagnosis of macroprolactinemia: urine prolactin level and serum / urine prolactin ratio [PDF]
Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the urine prolactin and serum/urine prolactin ratio for accuracy diagnosis of macroprolactinemia.

Abstract Objective and Design Macroprolactinemia may influence the interpretation of serum prolactin levels—a recognised phenomenon since 1981. The degree of macroprolactinaemia over time is less well described. We determined how macroprolactin status (based on polyethylene glycol (PEG) precipitation) varied by analysing serial measurements in ...

Macroprolactinemia among hyperprolactinemia patients in Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia [PDF]
Background: HyperPRL is the most common hypothalamic-pituitary disorder encountered in clinical endocrinology. Macroprolactinemia is a known benign cause of hyperPRL.

Contemporary approaches to the diagnosis of hyperprolactinemia
Hyperprolactinemia (HP) is a persistent prolactin increase in serum. HP is a common endocrinopathy that impairs reproductive function, long term HP may lead to the metabolic disorders and a decrease in bone mineral density.

Sexual function and depressive symptoms in young women with elevated macroprolactin content: a pilot study [PDF]
Elevated prolactin levels seem to be associated with impaired sexuality. The clinical significance of macroprolactinemia, associated with the predominance of high molecular mass circulating forms of prolactin, is still poorly understood.

Detection of macroprolactinemia and molecular characterization of prolactin isoforms in blood samples of hyperprolactinemic women [PDF]
Prolactin (PRL) circulates in the blood in the form of monomeric prolactin, dimeric prolactin and macroprolactin. Macroprolactin is a common cause of hyperprolactinemia.

Comparison of multiple methods for identification of hyperprolactinemia in the presence of macroprolactin [PDF]
Macroprolactin is a large, heterogeneous form of prolactin with limited bioavailability. Detection of macroprolactin by different immunoassays varies widely.
