A Primer on Macroprudential Policy [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Economic Education, 2015
This article introduces macroprudential policy using a static New Keynesian Macroeconomics model with financial frictions. Researchers analyze two related questions: First, they show how the procyclicality 5 of financial factors, captured by the financial accelerator, amplifies the transmission of supply and demand shocks and impacts the intuition they

Global Factors in Noncore Bank Funding and Exchange Rate Flexibility

open access: yesJournal of Money, Credit and Banking, EarlyView.

Exchange rate flexibility helps insulate the noncore to core ratio from such global factors.

We construct a novel index that captures the stance of macroprudential policy, and we highlight its main stylized facts since the inception of the euro in 1999. We combine a narrative approach and a structural VAR method to show that both unanticipated

Testing Distributional Granger Causality With Entropic Optimal Transport

open access: yesJournal of Time Series Analysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We develop a novel nonparametric test for Granger causality in distribution based on entropic optimal transport. Unlike classical mean‐based approaches, the proposed method directly compares the full conditional distributions of a response variable with and without the history of a candidate predictor.

Monetary and macroprudential policies [PDF]

open access: yes
We use a dynamic general equilibrium model featuring a banking sector to assess the interaction between macroprudential policy and monetary policy. We find that in "normal" times (when the economic cycle is driven by supply shocks) macroprudential policy

Noisy Politics, Quiet Technocrats: Strategic Silence by Central Banks

open access: yesRegulation &Governance, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In contrast to the “quiet” politics of the pre‐2008 period, macroeconomic policy has become “noisy”. This break raises a question: How do independent agencies designed for quiet politics react when a contentious public turns the volume up on them?
