Decline of Fine Suspended Sediments in the Madeira River Basin (2003–2017) [PDF]
The Madeira River is the second largest Amazon tributary, contributing up to 50% of the Amazon River’s sediment load. The Madeira has significant hydropower potential, which has started to be used by the Madeira Hydroelectric Complex (MHC), with two large dams along the middle stretch of the river.

Hydroclimatology of the Upper Madeira River basin: spatio-temporal variability and trends
ABSTRACTRising in the Andes, the Madeira River drains the southwestern part of the Amazon basin, which is characterized by high geographical, biological and climatic diversity. This study uses daily records to assess the spatio-temporal runoff variability in the Madeira sub-basins.

Longitudinal Hair Mercury Concentration in Riverside Mothers along the Upper Madeira River (Brazil)
Mercury releases from gold mining occurred during the 1980s in the Upper Madeira river, a Southern tributary of the Amazon. Downstream from these areas, riverside residents rely on fish consumption for subsistence. In July of 1993, hair samples were collected for mercury analysis from a group of mothers and their infants and one pregnant woman.

Checklist of chelonians from the upper Madeira River and the lower Madeira-Purus interfluvium (Brazilian Amazon), including a range expansion for Podocnemis sextuberculata Cornalia, 1849 [PDF]
We present data on occurrence of chelonians for the Madeira River (southwestern Amazon, Brazil). Sampling was undertaken along the BR-319 Highway in the Madeira-Purus interfluvium and along a 125‑km stretch of the upper Madeira River.

Bolivian river dolphin site preference in the middle-section of Mamoré River, upper Madeira river basin, Bolivia [PDF]
The South American river dolphins of genus Inia are distributed throughout the Amazon, Orinoco and Araguaia-Tocantins basins. They are categorized as Endangered and the knowledge on their basic ecology is still scarce. Therefore, investigation efforts must contribute to the knowledge and conservation of these species in their area of distribution.

Upstream dam impacts on gilded catfish Brachyplatystoma rousseauxii (Siluriformes: Pimelodidae) in the Bolivian Amazon [PDF]
This paper explores the effects of two run-of-river dams (Jirau and Santo Antônio) built in cascade in the middle Madeira River (Brazil) on the interruption of long-distance migration routes of the gilded catfish (Brachyplatystoma rousseauxii).
