Seeing the woods through the saplings: Using wood density to assess the recovery of human‐modified Amazonian forests

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 106, Issue 6, Page 2190-2203, November 2018., 2018
Plant communities in human‐modified Amazonian forests appear to not be recovering a key functional property—wood density, which in turn may affect their ability to store carbon in the future. If the aim of conservation programs in tropical forests is to maintain existing rates of ecosystem functions, processes and services, then they must concentrate ...

Selective Intermittent Preventive Treatment of Vivax Malaria: Reduction of Malaria Incidence in an Open Cohort Study in Brazilian Amazon

open access: yesMalaria Research and Treatment, Volume 2013, Issue 1, 2013., 2013
In children, the Intermittent Preventive Treatment (IPTc), currently called Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC), was considered effective on malaria control due to the reduction of its incidence in Papua New Guinea and in some areas with seasonal malaria in Africa.

Biomass production of tropical trees across space and time: The shifting roles of diameter growth and wood density

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 113, Issue 11, Page 3141-3158, November 2025.
Diameter growth is an important and good indicator of forest carbon production. However, size‐related changes in wood density, which are usually neglected, are critical for accurate short‐ and long‐term carbon assessments, especially in tropical humid sites.

Cytokine and Phenotypic Cell Profiles of Leishmania infantum Infection in the Dog

open access: yesJournal of Tropical Medicine, Volume 2012, Issue 1, 2012., 2012
Leishmaniasis has reemerged in recent years showing a wider geographic distribution and increased global incidence of human and canine disease than previously known. Dogs are the main domestic/peridomestic reservoir hosts of zoonotic visceral leishmaniasis caused by Leishmania infantum.

Functional Diversity of Neotropical Aquatic Hyphomycetes: Insights Into Environmental Drivers

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 57, Issue 6, November 2025.
Subtropical streams host diverse hyphomycete assemblages than tropical one's. Larger saprotrophs with diverse conidia shapes dominate in subtropical areas. Cold and oxygenated waters have a positive effect on functional diversity. Poor litter in tropical favored the dominance of wood saprotrophs and endophytes.

Multifaceted Assessment of Amazonian Tree Diversity Reveals Pervasive Impacts of Human Modification

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 31, Issue 11, November 2025.
Amazonian forests impacted by humans have a reduced and different group of tree species than those forests that have never been impacted. The trees present in forests impacted by humans also have different evolutionary histories and functional characteristics.

Genetic Versus Environmental Influence on Radial Variation in Myracrodruon urundeuva Wood

open access: yesFloresta e Ambiente, 2017
We hypothesized that Myracrodruon urundeuva trees of two provenances with different genotypes would present variations influenced by their origin terms of anatomy and specific gravity when planted in an environment different from their seed origin, but ...
